The fiance recommended a cigar place in Cerritos Ca. last weekend. She had gone there to pick up the Partagas sampler for the Valentines review. Let me just say, this place is awesome. Its strictly a cigar and cigar accessories store, and has a great vibe. Nice people, and tons of great Americana antiques.
Anyways, I was on a mission. The Woam. Most stores I called and some of the regular website I buy from were out. My last shot till fathers day was Cigar Time. They had them, in fact that had them and a huge - FREAKING AWESOME aging room full of other great sticks. I saw a ton of nice Davidoffs, Tats and I was told there were some PAMs in there somewhere.
For just shy of $20.00 I had the Woam, but I was so mesmerized by the selection, the great staff, awesome regulars and the good conversation I spent alot more...
Before I walked in I decided I would buy a Woam and then head home to smoke. However after talking to everyone there and picking up a very nice hand-picked Fuente sampler I torched that Woam up right there.
Let me say first and foremost, I'm nuts for the perfecto shape and I'm even crazier for the Figurado shape. So points there. Construction was as I expected, very nice. the wrapper was slightly oily, and just lovely to behold. The chop was smooth with my xikar, and the draw was a bit tight (obviously, I was pulling through that tiny hole). Light was super fast, no eventful.
From here on out, this is all based on my memory. The first inch had a funky burn, which due to the figurado was expected. I remember at first tasting some pepper and some nicely aged/earthy tobacco. I enjoy maduros for afternoon evening and this fit the bill.
The second inch had some mellowing, and an opening of the flavors, it was a calmer smoother mouth feel. The smoke was average, not to much, but maybe a little less that I prefer. I don't remember the room note since there were many other cigars adding to this lovely lounge setting. I also started to have a bit of a draw problem. I had to use a bit of mouth pressure to allow a larger draw. I equated this to the Figurado shape as well.
From the third to end the consistently mellowing smoke hadn't lost any flavor, still earthy, lightly peppery with a smooth mouth feel. After about the second I started to appreciate the consistency of the cigar. It really is something you would like to keep going. Its strong beginning opens up to a smooth middle and a consistent finish. It was very enjoyable and I smoked it till my finger and mouth started to burn.
Did I like this cigar? Absolutely. Would I buy again? I'm sure I will. However (I know, here it comes), the price point and demand do not seem to justify the experience. Even if you take the consistent flavor, smoke quantity and that great construction I'm left still saying "But its twenty dollars!" I also remember tasting some similarities from the Woam to other sticks I have smoked in my very lacking cigar smoking experiences.
This will be a smoke I might grab for a special time spent by myself, where I can just sit relax and internalize the moment.
The next Hemi I smoke will be a Woa, maybe I'll get hooked on that one
