Hi guys, yesterday, I bought my first pipe! It is a Savinelli, shape 920. I can't seem to find the exact model on sav's website, but I can tell you that I payed 47.99 for it at the local b&m (who just started carrying pipes about 3 weeks ago) and the grain looks like the Champaigne series, but is a rich red color instead of the natural color. It is also wax finished. (I'm not sure if that means anything, but I'll throw it out there anyway.) The store owner gave me a few samples to try, a french vanilla, nougat, and a medium english. I tried the nougat today, and found the aroma to be very nice, but the smoke was quite mild I thought. The Savinelli rep was in the shop while I was deciding (we all know that makes things so much better... :whistling: ) and he told me that as a cigar smoker, i would find most of the aromatic stuff to be very mild, so this wasn't too much of a surprise. All in all, I feel very good about my purchase, and the thing, although quaint by some standards is a thing of beauty, the pic doesn't do it justice, and the CAO humi it's sitting on doesn't help it either.

Looks very nice Chris!
I think I just might have to start a new "hobby"!!! ???

Congrats!! I live Savinellis, and have 5 of 'em, but none in that shape.

The rep is right, Aromatics can be (and usually) very mild. Be careful of smoking Aro's and non-Aro's in the same pipe. They'll all end up tasting the same, and trust me, you don't want a nice English tasting like vanilla or sumpin!!

I started to break in a Savinelli last night.....

This one, except in green:

Thats a nice looking pipe Matt. I hope the tobacco is treating you right.

Also TVM, that is also a nice pipe. I think I've held it before but can't keep track of them any more. I'm always looking at pipes.

Point taken. I have only smoked one bowl so far, but 'tis better to have good habits at the start than to buy 3 more pipes just because I screwed up the first one :D . I'll probably pick up a cob soon so that I can do some tasting without making a melting pot of the carbon buildup on the Sav.

Good move. You can get those for the cost of a low end cigar and they'll do ya quite a while. Matter of fact, many guys i know ALWAYS smoke a new blend in a Cob so they get the true flavours of the tobacco.
