Anyone had any experience with this humidor? Got it at my local B&M for $45 (after tax). Doing the salt test now to ensure accuracy.

That is the humidifier that came with it. Would you guys leave that one or should I look into these 'beads' that you guys talk about so much?

I took everyone's advice and went with the beads...I couldn't be happier!

Well, 3.5 hours into the salt test and the hygro is sitting at 55.

And, the shot glass with distilled water is sitting in the humidor with the humidifier.

x2 what Devil Doc said...might be good for a bundle of go to's...you'll be moving to the coolidor in no time...trust me...

Well, 5 hours into the salt test and I am still sitting at 55%. Should be closer to stable now, right?

Is it possible that I put too little water in the salt? I put 1 tsp. in a coke bottle lid and added just a wee bit o' water to make it look like wet sand and sealed the zip lock bag.

Too little water or is it possible that the meter is really that bad off from the factory?

A coke bottle lid? Seems a little small. The salt should be completely saturated with a small layer of water remaining on top. Do a search, there's been pictures posted.

Give it at least 24 hours before you start worrying, and a coke bottlecap will work fine.

Analog is not that great to really know RH. Get a DIGITAL. Calibration kit is just a buck fifty with a digi.

Well, overnight, the humidity dropped a little to 53%. I am starting to wonder if my hygro is just crap or if the bag might have a hole in it somewhere or what is going on.

Gonna check while i am out today and see if I can find another hygro (local B&M was out of them) and reset the salt test.

OH YEAH! Does it matter is the salt is iodized or not? The salt I am using now is non-iodized from what i can tell. Its the cheap stuff from WalMart.

Went to WalMart and got a digital hygro and started the test over in a gallon freezer bag. Hopefully the new meter will turn out better than the original.

Now you're talkin'! Digi will work much better! Cool a dor Cool a dor Cool a dor!

double bag it, or use one of those glad-wear containers for sat test

You'll be upgrading within a month. All of us new guys have made the same mistake.

I think this one will work for now. I am just into buying singles to try to find my likes and dislikes for now. I do not see myself buying boxes any time real soon. When I get to that point, i will probably buy one cabinet that the boxes can go in and leave the desktop to put a few out in from the boxes.

Current salt test results: (5 hours in)
Digital: 50
Analog: 44

Starting to think I picked up some of that low humidity salt. (You do use distilled water for the salt test right?)

12 hours after putting new mix in with distilled water and in the Ziploc container, here are my results: (I am starting to wonder what I am doing wrong and that both meters could not be that far off could they?)

Analog: 57%
Digital: 61%
