Hey guys...Im new to cigars, new to the humidor deal...I was thinking of this humi from cheaphumidors.com, though..what do you guys think?

tuscany humidor from cheaphumidors.com

Was thinking of getting the digital hygro with it, the $20 upgrade.

Any thoughts from the more experienced?

I by no means am one of the "more experienced" but i think you should move up to the next largest size that you can afford. I went from 6 cigars, to over 100 in 10 min thanks to one NST, and a few bombs....or get you a Really nice smaller one, and invest in a cooler-dor.

If I have missed the mark, one of the FOG's will let us BOTH know

Thanks
Tim

I am not a FOG but I do know enough to tell you to go big and plan on bigger!

Walmart has a 120 Qt. marine cooler for $50 I have two of these and they are easier to maintain and hold way more cigars than a wooden humi.

Buy some beads from Heartfelt Industries or condition your own kitty litter (do a search on these subjects).

Good luck...............and start planning on buying your next large capacity cooler!

I have that exact humidor, so take it from 1st hand experience... It's very nice, but it fills up fast. I ended up buying a a 100ct. and three 20ct. humidors on cbid to keep up with my growing supply.

I agree with the statement. Always go up at least a little bigger than you think you need. Or even better build the coolerdor. It's a fun task and certianly cheaper than a humidor.

I plan on getting a coolidor soon, and only using my desktp humidor for some of my sticks that I plan on smoking soon. The extra stuff can age nicely in the humidor where there will be plenty of room.

Shoot the moon, go ALL IN, let it all hang out.....buy a cabinet!!! :D

.......but if you must...at least check these out ----> CPSTORE

Humidors are like jails. No matter how many or how big, you'll fill them. Dave at Cheaphumidors is a good guy to do buisness with.

Doc.

I have a "Milano" from Cheap Humidors which is about the same size. The humidor is just fine for the money; seals well, nicely made, etc. You'll also want a decent digital hygrometer and some beads for humidity control you can count on. Viper at Heartfelt Industries can hook you up with both.

However, the "size does matter" comments are well founded. My guess is what you'll find is that (like me) you'll end up smoking out of your desktop and having one (...or four... :whistling: ) big coolers for longer term storage / aging.

Good luck, and have fun - B.B.S.

I'm gonna have to go against the tide here and join the contrarian camp. If you are new to humidors and new to cigars, I'm going to suggest you get yourself a 50ct humidor. Or, at least, nothing larger than the one you have your eye set out on.

People start new hobbies everyday. Most do not last in their newfound hobbies. Case in point: I used to sail. At one time, I dreamed of the day I could circumnavigate the globe in a stout 40+ footer. Well, somewhere along my celestial navigation courses, I faded away from that hobby.

Try out a small box humidor. They're easy to fill and they're easy to maintain. At minimal expense. Don't go overboard until you realize that you are indeed consumed by this hobby. You don't wanna have your home cluttered up with some big ol' box that you might have no future use for.

If you do continue with this hobby, you will have to graduate to a larger humidor. That's cool. Everyone needs at least two humidors. You'll need something for overflow, or for work, or for "dryboxing", whatever. It won't go to waste by that point.

Just my opinion. Welcome to the club.

I also bought a 50 count when I started, then another 50 count, then a 200 count and now I've got a 300 count large desktop piece of furniture that sits in the middle of the living room. I still use the 50 count from time to time if I need to store a fresh box of smokes for a while.

I would say buy a inexpensive 50 count to start being that they are fairly cheap and then if the hobby requires, buy a much larger humidor at a later date. You can always give the old one away later on or use it for temporary overflow which can happen...trust me!!.

The nice thing about bigger humdors is that once you get them settled down with a humidifier and some beads, they don't require constant monitoring like the smaller ones require. I can keep mine on at 62-63RH which is exactly where I like my smokes.

Enjoy!!

p.s. I highly recommend RH beads!!

The Tuscany is made by "Quality Importers". They have really good quality for the price. Good hardware & seal.

Definitely get a digital hygrometer and RH Beads. Make sure you calibrate your hygrometer annually as well as replace the battery.

Hope this helps!
