Well...this cigar blew me away!

I don't want to get too into it, but if you can find these buy them at any cost. It was a beautifully wrapped figaurado, very few veins to be found and wonderfully aromatic, unlit.

Clipped the cap and with the perfect draw, wasted no time lighting this wonderful specimen. Perfect light...fired right up!

The first taste was of smooth tobacco...lite on the tongue and tons of smoke. I can't describe the subtleness of the rich flavors, but it was one of the best cigars I have smoked in a very long time. Better than the WOAM and PAM64 I smoked this weekend. One of the things that did pop out at me was the great earthy, mushroom undertones and smooth herbal tea finish. WOW!

I will now go spend another $17.99 a piece for a few more.

Is this one of the originals from the "tubes" or is it from the new 80th Anniversary humidor?

This is from a plain box (says Limited Edition #22) without tubes or from the AVO 80TH humidor.

Hey John....Where did you get these...??? Was it local? I sure would like to try one.

Now that's odd indeed. Are they in cello? Snap a picture of the box if you get a chance!

I know what you're thinking, Moki, and they are not fake. No, they are not in cello. They are in a plain undressed box. The owner had Avo in for a tasting event and he told him how much he liked the #22, so Avo got him a box. And the owner is selling them to him customers. And they are great tasting cigars!!! :)

Local as in Costa Mesa...I'll grab you one or two if you want, Charley. Let me know tonight.

Nice review. These are wonderful smokes and about as rare as they come. Get them while you can.

I don't think you know what I'm thinkin'... cuz I wasn't thinking that they were fake. :) I was thinking that they are one of Avo's personal production of Avo 22s, which are not the same as the original Avo 22s (but still reportedly quite good).

There was a big stink about this on CF recently, which resulted in those particular Avo 22s no longer being made available. The issue was that they were being called Avo 22s, when in reality, they are not the same cigar/blend as the originals.

Yes... they were available semi-regularly at the Corona Cigar Company in Florida, but because of the (founded) complaints I mentioned above, they are no longer available there.

If you like them, buy the remainder of the stock (or if they have another box, buy it too). You won't find them again, in all likelihood.

Thanks for the heads up on these John. I'm smoking one now while watching the ballgame. I'm not to good at writing reviews but I can say this thing is INCREDIBLE....!!!!! Very smooth with great flavor. I think I may have to go back and see if they have anymore left.

Charley,

I told you...that's why I suggested going in and grabbing them. It is one fantastic cigar...maybe one of the best I have smoked in a long time. HMMM...should I go and get some more...I think the owner and manager may get mad at me if I do...and maybe Moki, too! I have 4 now sitting...waiting patiently. HMMM!!! :whistling:

Okay, here is what I have on the Avo 22s in their various release forms:

Avo 22 information

If anyone has any corrections and/or additions, please let me know.

Avo personally gave me and some fellow BOTLs one of "his" 22s to smoke at an event last year. It was AWESOME! I could see how it would be confusing though, having two different cigars called by the same name.

Smoked an Avo 22 from the original canisters tonight, and it was as good as I remember. Nice smokes.

Great info Moki, you certainly are on top of it! I have one original 22 in the humi that just might get lit tonight on the deck.

It satisfies my OCD. :)

Enjoy the smoke, they are nice sticks... still surprisingly robust for 4 years of age on it... I'd imagine it can withstand double or triple that and will only get better.

Hey Fetter....remember these...? I found one at the bottom of my humi (needless to say it's my last). I'm enjoying it right now. WOW...I forgot how good these things were. Wish I could get more.

Damn - I knew there was a cigar I wanted to add to my ss list - oh well, next year. I have had the le5 and the 80th - I like the 5'r much more than the 80th. For you guys who have had them all, is the 22 more like the 5's or 80th? I would say the le5 is in my top 5 of cigars -

now the question - would any shop have 22's around, or are they now totally gone?

At the risk of replying to myself, I turned out to be wrong -- those "personal stash" Avo 22s are still for sale at CCC, they are just called Boris 11s now.
