My First Anejo

I'm about to go outside and fire up my first Anejo. I picked out a #50. I have to be outside to day with the cooker anyways, so I figured what the hell.

I'll report back later.

Ok, upon taking this cigar out of its packaging and cedar wrapper, I just love the way it looks. Its just about my favorite size of cigar. Not too long where you'll be smoking it for 2 hours. The Anejo cigars are nice looking to begin with, but I love the color of this one, a nice dark maduro color.

Upon lighting it, my first impression was WOW. THis is my new favorite, without a doubt. But the more I smoked on it, I noticed that it seemed to have a very hard draw to it. I smoked one of the PAM's the other day and you barely had to pull on that at all to get big thick clouds of smoke, this one was the opposite. The cigar actually felt heavy, like it was just packed full. I really enjoyed the taste of this one though. It seemed to be fairly mellow to begin with, but no lack of flavor.

The longer I smoked on it, the more flavor it produced, and the draw seemed to get easier, especially down towards the end. As for the burn, it stayed nice and even all the way to the end. I sat it down for a few minutes when I was adding wood to the cooker, and it seemed to want to go out fairly quickly, but a couple good puffs and it was rolling again.

All in all, this was a GREAT smoke. I enjoyed everything about it, except the draw. If it would have been easier, it would easily be the best stick I've had yet. But constantly having to really pull on it took away from the experience. But its still one of the best tasting smokes I've had yet!

They actually smoke really good on the drier side. I am sure Ginseng can explain oily cigars, hygroscopic, and burn characteristics in a way to even confuse other engineers. LOL, just kidding, but they do smoke better on the dry side.

yeah, you're right about the draw and how quickly it goes out.

But, it's got a character all it's own.

This cigar seems to be "cooked" with some concoction that gives it that cedar/spiciness.
The Anejo Maduro process probably adds to the weight of the cigar.
Sometimes I taste this vegetable-like gum...hard to explain.

What a great smoke. I have only enjoyed one and found the draw to be really good. It was on the dry side though from the humi I took it from - 63-62rh. And the flavors of this smoke are incredible - IMHO

An Anejo of any size will always have a great draw on the dry side. I had a #49 for Christmas and it was wetter and a tougher draw than the #77 I had last week which was dryer. However, a #77 is a little different and harder to compare to every other Anejo IMHO.

Good On ya Hillbilly on your 1st Anejo! Glad you loved #50, those are getting ready in my Humi. I'm sure the hard draw was due to the fact that Anejo boxes come standard in box humidified @ 69% so they need some marinating a bit lover(I aim for ~64%). Just smoke some in a couple of weeks you'll see!
