Just when I though I had things figured out...

I open it yesterday expecting to enjoy the sweet smell of cigars, nope. Musty, musty, musty. SHIT.

I've got 65% beads in it, the temp was around 72F. All the cigars were in ziplocks. The only thing I did different with it was place in my new coolerdor with a blue ice pack. I had 1lb of 65% beads in that sucker too. Plus some large chunks of spanish cedar. RS digital Hygro never got past 55%, and yes I did calibrate it with salt.

I tried to burn a cigar from it last night, it tasted fine, but the burn was very slow and tight like it was overhumidified. Needless to say I took a hammer to the Ratshack hygro, but I still can't figure out what happened.

Does anything from my description scream abuse?

Zip Lock bags - HUH!

Your cigars in the zip locks took on their own RH.
Doesn't matter what you did outside of that!

Take the cigars out of the bags and leave them for
several days in the humi with the beads.

Thanks Brian, I see what you mean. I also think I found the offending sticks as well. It was a 5 pack of RyJ tubes that were in a plastic bag, plus 2 CDL #3 that I never unwrapped after the shipping process. I feel like such a dumbass. :angry:
