Today, September 19, 2007, I turned the big 3-0. To celebrate I pulled out the big guns....a Swisher Sweet.

:sign: Just kidding.

I smoked my first WOAM, one that was so generously gifted by a botl here (you know who you are! Thank you!) and it was from 2001!!! It was mildly toothy and sparkled with plume. The oilyness was a thing of beauty. The prelight smell was fantastic and the light was amazing. This cigar was so smoothe. I paired it with a small snifter of Remy Martin XO. That was amazingly smoothe as well. The WOAM yielded no burn when expelled nasally. My pleasure meter was pegged. I was enjoying this so much, I couldn't read the book I brought out with me. Even the ash was sparkly which I have never seen before. The taste is what I would describe as deep and rich, with a short finish and a mild and delicous aftertaste. I am not great at describing flavors but I would say cedar and coffee. I have never had a cigar aged for almost 7 years. It was enjoyment of epic proportions. Nubbed it.

A personal reflection:

In 30 years of life, I have learned some things. I have escaped drug addiction. I have escaped a beautiful woman who was the devil in the flesh. I have had 4 years of marriage to a wonderful woman. My wife almost died giving birth to our 1st son. They are both alive and well and I am the father of a beautiful boy. I will jump out of a perfectly good airplane one day. I believe in gun control...make sure you hit what you're aiming at!

In 30 years of life, I have learned...
...my body can't take what it used to
...you don't have to be drunk to have a good time
...whatever political party you vote for, no one is ever totally right
...having a good cigar to me is stopping to smell the roses
...mortgage is a necessary evil
...taking time off is just as important as working more to make a little extra
...marriage is great if you wait for the right person (but I didn't say easy)
...though I have talents, skills and knowledge, I am not better than anyone else
...a beautiful woman who lacks discretion is like a gold ring in a pig's snout
...that there is a difference between confidence and arrogance
...that I have much more to learn
...that there is a God and He has been much more generous to me than I deserve.

Righteous my man.

Congratulations on the milestone.

If there is one thing that I have learned in life, and I learned it the hard way, it is that there are no mistakes in life, on lessons to be learned.

Tim

Mike, congrats on the B/Day. I remember that same B/Day well, it was 1990!!!

I enjoyed your list of what 30 years have tought you. It seems in many ways our lives are mirrored.

Very deep and true message. Congrats on your Big 3-0 and remember 30's is the new 20's or so I've been told.;)

Raf

Mike, I am glad you enjoyed your day and your cigar. Great review and wisdom. Thanks for sharing.

Mike,
Happy Belated Birthday, very nice review.

I especially found your reflection at the end very touching brother. I like your outlook on life in general.

Wonderful review and words of wisdom. A nicely aged WOAM is one of my personal favorites as well.

Gee, Brandon, this sounds awfully familiar. ;)

Happy birthday, bro!

Brandon hit me with the same for my 50th.

The return smack is on it's way as I type! :D

Steve

Also, try a fresh one, too. Quite a difference, IMO. Both excellent but different.

Right on, brother. Your time on this planet has been well spent.

May the universe provide you with its blessings as well as the wisdom to recognize them. That, my man, is the greatest blessing of them all.

Wilkey

Happy Birthday Mike!

Looks like you've earned your 30 years. I'm happy you enjoyed such a wonderful cigar, may you continue enjoy many more as well as the the good health of your Family. Love the reflections! True. True.

Great post, although even with all the acclaim the WOAM has never really done it for me (and i'm a maduro fan). In my experience though cigars that have plumed do taste a head above the rest of the same vitola and this one had a nice glittery wrapper. Perhaps i'll have to keep the couple i have left in the cabinet for a few years and try one under said circumstances. Up until now there is a local brother that loves them much more than i and i have gifted him almost all of my WOAM's in the past.

In any event, this was a great read.

Good stuff Mike! You forgot some wisdom, the 2nd part you'll understand later on:

Never trust a fart, never waste a hard on.

Never trust a fart

Yep! those damn air/shit seperators commonly go bad after 30 years old. Touching cotton aint no fun that's for sure, especially in a crowded shopping mall.
