Last evening the wife and kids were out, so about 5pm i poured a couple fingers of PVW 20yo, and got out a DC Max #5 that i've been wanting to try since i 1st got it, a whole week ago.
What a nice looking cigar, dark oily wrapper, appears to be well constructed. After clipping, the pre-light draw was just right, little musty tasting though. Light was good, but not alot of smoke, and a small run which corrected itself
The 1st third i thought was bitter and harsh, not to mention very strong, got that 'nicotine lump' in my throat rather quickly. Very much a woodsy earthy taste. Did not produce alot of smoke, maybe due to still being a little damp?
2nd third it really settled into a groove and mellowed out a bit, lots of different tastes, cedar, chocolate, and some others i can't describe. started producing a ton of smoke, and burned evenly and stayed lit easily.
I didn't get to far into the last third as the wife and kids got home, and i was playing the Chef tonight (home-made chicken pot pie for the kids, Jerked (ironic huh) pork tenderloin kabobs and salad for us), but overall i'd rate this cigar very highly, up there w/ the Opus X's i've smoked.
