Last evening the wife and kids were out, so about 5pm i poured a couple fingers of PVW 20yo, and got out a DC Max #5 that i've been wanting to try since i 1st got it, a whole week ago.

What a nice looking cigar, dark oily wrapper, appears to be well constructed. After clipping, the pre-light draw was just right, little musty tasting though. Light was good, but not alot of smoke, and a small run which corrected itself

The 1st third i thought was bitter and harsh, not to mention very strong, got that 'nicotine lump' in my throat rather quickly. Very much a woodsy earthy taste. Did not produce alot of smoke, maybe due to still being a little damp?

2nd third it really settled into a groove and mellowed out a bit, lots of different tastes, cedar, chocolate, and some others i can't describe. started producing a ton of smoke, and burned evenly and stayed lit easily.

I didn't get to far into the last third as the wife and kids got home, and i was playing the Chef tonight (home-made chicken pot pie for the kids, Jerked (ironic huh) pork tenderloin kabobs and salad for us), but overall i'd rate this cigar very highly, up there w/ the Opus X's i've smoked.

These are great smokes Gator, and I do agree with you you with regards to rating it up there with the opus cigars with an added sweetness.

I smoke this cigar nearly every day. The best every day cigar, I've found to date. They make an exceptional breakfast cigar. Thanks for the review Gator. I now have a reference point. I have a real problem distinguishing flavors. Is that deck, where your going to put me should I come down for some fowl. :D

here's the view, have had them here before, i back up to a 10,000 acre plantation, but the neighbors prolly wouldn't want you running 'round the hood in camo

Not really clear if you liked it. Will you buy and keep more of these?

I'm sure he liked it, don' know about him buying more.

I used to smoke the hell out of these when I first started and before I started trying ISOMs. Thanks to this thread, my next box will probably be DCM #5's.

Oh yeah. I actually have a box of toro #4's that i plan to let sit awhile, well, maybe. I was very impressed.

If nothing else they are good peace offerings to people i piss off

Hey Gator!!!! I'm pissed. :whistling:

Nice review and great pics. It's nice to hear how a smoke compares to others, that way folks can get an idea if it compares to something else they've tried before.

Nice review and pics . This is one of the first premium box of cigars I bought, and look at the path it has led down  ! These are really great cigars and if people search enough they can find them for some really great prices.

Ditto.

My opinion a cigar needs to rest at LEST two weeks coming from shop. That bitter taste sounded to me like it was wet or is stored above 65. Thats my experience with em. Great review and thanks..

Good review Frank! I agree, these are very tasty smokes and I've been thinking for a while now that I don't have enough in my humi. Perhaps when I recover from the holiday spending, my cigar budget will allow a box purchase.

Nice review. I love these (and the Toros) too.
I wouldn't want to smoke them EVERYDAY. I wouldn't want to get tired of them.
Regarding the comparison to Opus...
someone told me they are the same blend but with a different wrapper.

I've yet to try one put after this thread I think I'll break out the lone Maximus in my humi, a toro.

I believe the DCM is an Ecuadorian cigar. The Opus is a Dominican cigar. I don't think they are alike in any way. Although it would be nice to try a DCM with opus wrapper or the other way around.
