Our local BX(base exchange for you non military guys) just got in a large humidor case and recently started selling cigars. Something caught my eye as i was browsing through it...the word FUMAS stood out like a sore thumb. Thinking that maybe they were the Padrons, i grabed the bundle and looked em over...well they werent Padrons, but instead, were called Moya Maduro Fumas. Hmm.. 15 bucks for a bundle of 25...these cant be all that great, but the BX has a money back guarantee if your not satisfied so i bought a bundle in search of a cheap everyday smoke.
I must say, im quite impressed with this little cheapie! The construction and wrapper are VERY similar to the Padron fumas...bumpy, toothy and a little rough but solid enough to not fall apart in your hands. I cut the cap and found the prelight draw to be a tiny bit sweet but with a good rich tobacco flavor. It was a little tough to get lit at first, but once a little layer of ash developed, it burned very consistant and evenly through the better 2/3s of the cigar. Had a couple issues past the 2/3s mark, but nothing a touch or two with the lighter didnt fix. The taste of these things are great for such an inexpensive cigar...very smooth, a little nutty and spicey with an ever so slight sweet finish...no harsh flavors or bitterness at all here. I did take one apart as i was curious as to the interior construction and found that the tobacco was very evenly colored...no stems or nasty looking objects, probably what i would consider a medium length filler and looked of very high quality. The ash was a light grey and very consistant in color and for considering the shorter filler, it held on well past the 1" mark no problem. The draw was a tiny bit on the heavy side, but my guess is that they are a little over hydrated as they felt quite moist, so i will let them lay to rest in the humidor before i make any more draw judgements.
Overall, for a little over 60 cents per cigar, these things are fantastic everyday smokes!! If you see the bundles lying around at your local tobaccoist, and your looking for a super inexpensive smoke, try these out. They are a shocker for the price!!
