Our local BX(base exchange for you non military guys) just got in a large humidor case and recently started selling cigars. Something caught my eye as i was browsing through it...the word FUMAS stood out like a sore thumb. Thinking that maybe they were the Padrons, i grabed the bundle and looked em over...well they werent Padrons, but instead, were called Moya Maduro Fumas. Hmm.. 15 bucks for a bundle of 25...these cant be all that great, but the BX has a money back guarantee if your not satisfied so i bought a bundle in search of a cheap everyday smoke.

I must say, im quite impressed with this little cheapie! The construction and wrapper are VERY similar to the Padron fumas...bumpy, toothy and a little rough but solid enough to not fall apart in your hands. I cut the cap and found the prelight draw to be a tiny bit sweet but with a good rich tobacco flavor. It was a little tough to get lit at first, but once a little layer of ash developed, it burned very consistant and evenly through the better 2/3s of the cigar. Had a couple issues past the 2/3s mark, but nothing a touch or two with the lighter didnt fix. The taste of these things are great for such an inexpensive cigar...very smooth, a little nutty and spicey with an ever so slight sweet finish...no harsh flavors or bitterness at all here. I did take one apart as i was curious as to the interior construction and found that the tobacco was very evenly colored...no stems or nasty looking objects, probably what i would consider a medium length filler and looked of very high quality. The ash was a light grey and very consistant in color and for considering the shorter filler, it held on well past the 1" mark no problem. The draw was a tiny bit on the heavy side, but my guess is that they are a little over hydrated as they felt quite moist, so i will let them lay to rest in the humidor before i make any more draw judgements.

Overall, for a little over 60 cents per cigar, these things are fantastic everyday smokes!! If you see the bundles lying around at your local tobaccoist, and your looking for a super inexpensive smoke, try these out. They are a shocker for the price!!

Hello Jeff,

Thanks for the tip and the review. What PX/BX did you find these in? I've not seen anything along these lines at any of our exchanges...

Thanks again,
TTFN
Tim

They are available at the AAFES exchange at FE Warren AFB....they might be able to order them for you...

Maybe, I'll have to check in to that, I'm a few "miles" away, in Pennsylvania and I'll need to check the next time I'm at the PX.

Ordering between exchanges has been about a 50/50 proposition for me, half the time the items never show up.

Thanks again for the heads up.

Called my local exchange, they suspected the items at your exchange were a "vendor" display and not an AAFES carried product. They said they'd check into it, but she didn't sound very optimistic.

Do you know if it was a VENDOR display?

UPDATE- WOW that was quick. The local exchange called me back, said she found them in her system and ordered me one of each, apparently the have them with a natural wrapper and a what she called a maduro(sp) wrapper. Said she had no idea how long it would take to get them, she'd never ordered from that particular vendor. They were $14.95 a box so I suspect they are the correct ones. She'll call me when/if they arrive.

Thanks for the head up Jeff.

Hello all,

Just thought I'd post a follow-up on these sticks... After two false starts from my local folks, I finally just called the folks at the Warren AFB exchange, talked with them and the graciously overnighted a couple bundles to my local exchange, I received them last week. They had two different variations available so I ordered one of each. Here is a couple images of the bundles.

Thanks for pointing these out Jeff, they are a great smoke for the $$. Not the most beautiful sticks, but they have a nice draw, a mild to medium flavor. They make a great smoke for when I'm mowing the yard, etc.

Glad ya like em...for 15 bucks for 25 sticks they CANT be beat. Give em some humi time and they get even better. Ive had a bundle in mine for about 2 months now...the flavor has really gotten alot stronger but stayed nice and smooth. I havnet tried those Casadores yet...might have to pick up a bundle of those too. Like you said, they arent much to look at, but they smoke pretty darn good for the price!
