I don't know about the rest of you, but "cheap" is one of my favorite words. Unfortunately, it doesn't make an appearance in the world of hand rolled cigars often. However, at the recommendation of a good friend of mine (whom I consider to be a true aficionado), I ordered a bundle of Mosaico cigars from Famous Smoke Shop.
The cost of the bundle was $35 with no shipping charges. That works out to about $1.75 a stick...and that's cheap!
Let me first say that I ordered on Wednesday, and they were on the doorstep Thursday evening. They arrived in great shape, well packed inside air filled packing.
I ordered the Sumatra Torpedo, which is a 6 x 52.
Upon unwrapping the bundle, I noticed a few of the tips were imperfect. However, I kind of expect this from a bundled stogie, and they appear to all be completely smokable.
The wrapper had a nice, medium brown tint with an oily sheen, and the surface was quite smooth. Construction-wise, it gave ever so slightly when pinched between thumb and index finger, and was evenly firm with no soft or hard spots. These cigars come from various sources according to Famous, so I'm not sure of the filler and binder.
It clipped easily, and had a nice draw. After toasting and lighting, it immediately produced nice, thick smoke that had an almost leathery taste. This flavor went away after smoking down the first third of the cigar, replaced by woodsy tones with a touch of spice. It had a even white ash, which held on well. I don't think I rolled it off until it was over and inch long. The last third was a bit more harsh, but still quite pleasant.
Overall, a great smoking experience, enhanced by the budget price. I will enjoy the rest of the bundle, and plan to make this buy again.
