JR Cigars : Montague
This was JR's weekly special a few weeks ago. I bit the hook and picked up a couple boxes. I had one a few hours after delivery, and another 2 day later. At that point I was wondering if I should have spent my money on some else. They were both bitter, acidic and had serious burn problems.
As I was checking out the humidor last night looking for something to smoke, my eyes fell on the Montagues that I had been ignoring. I picked one up and rolled it in my fingers. It definately felt better then the first two - it was much looser [I'm trying not to use the word spongy]. So, I took it out to the "smoking room" [aka my back patio] and cliped it. Pre-light draw was much better then I remembered. It had a nice, rich maduro like flavor.
Hit it was some fire, and it lit right up, only having to make one small correction within the first minute or so. The first half inch was a bit harsh, reminding me of the acidic flavor the first two had given, put that calmed down quickly. From there on, it had a very nice rich [and somewhat sharp] woody flavor that made me think this stick could be passed off as Mayorga High Octane second. About 1/2 to 2/3rds into the smoke, it developed a very pronounced ceder like spiceyness that lasted the rest of the smoke. Like the High Octane, I got the "nicotine sting" on my lips.
Overall, I was very happy with the cigar. At $0.80 each, I'm even happier - provided the rest turn out like this one. For the budget minded guys out there [like me] this is a good smoke, on the cheap.
