OK, so here is a box of Pepin rolled Padilla Miami 8&11 Salomon.
The fresh versions were sublime, and I believe exclusively rolled by Pepin.

I did the like the robusto best, but all the vitola were excellent.

I've carefully aged this for something like 9 or 10 years. Separate container, boveda 65, etc.
They had been developing a wonderful plume along the cigar to cigar contact areas. Very very fine crystals under magnification.

I check them at least once a month, and often weekly, inspecting and allowing air exchange.

I got sick and neglected them for a bit over a month. Am currently in the hospital, so a friend went to my house to do a maintenance run. Topped off humidifiers, beads, Bovedas, etc.

Thank god he is a very precise and detail oriented person, going through all the Lock&Lock containers I am experimenting with. He calls me and tells me he sees Mold! padilla 1.jpg

In this case, absolutely no conditions changed except of length of time between some air exchange.
He wiped them clean and I'm figuring out my next move. Probably into singles bags.

I guess I could smoke them too...hahahaha!!!

I'd say your plan sounds good. Wipe, separate, and then at some point in the near. Destroy them slowly by fire.

At some point recently has there been more heat and or humidity in your neck of the woods?

Oh hell, yep, I totally forgot the A/C capacitor went. You just stirred my memory. I'd say we were compromised for about 2 days, about april 25th. Took me a day to realize something was wrong. House was warmer, but since it wasn't dramatic, I shrugged it off to me being sick vice the A/C unit. Then my son said he was getting warm, and got me on the right track. House probably got to low 80's.

Good job giving me something else to think about!

I just met up with Nick (Kann) and friends of his, I shared a Parti Culebra and when we opened the little coffin box one of the three sticks had a bit of mold on the head. I thought it odd that that three intertwined cigars in the same box, actually touching each other, would have some mold on just one. Cut it off and smoked fine. Just odd. I don't understand how fungi works I suppose.

Anejos still seem to have one of the most mold prone wrappers I've had any experience with. I've had a couple cases where new to the cabinet cigars would develop tiny little wrapper mold spots. A gentle wipe with the colloidal silver / distilled water solution I fill my humidifiers with, followed by a couple days of dry boxing have always solved the problem permanently for me.

I finally saved it to a Word document......:D

I use nano-silver mixed with my distilled water, and this eliminates any possibility of contracting mold, and keeps the spores from spreading if there is mold introduced to the environment. It is odorless and tasteless, as well as non-toxic...

This will work, 2 ounces per gallon of distilled water. I use it with my aristocrats and my set it and forget it systems, as well as my beads. If I see any mold on recently purchased cigars, I used the same solution to gently wipe down the cigar, it kills any trace of mold...

Oh, that sucks. Such a long time of diligence to have something like this happen out of your control. I hope that you are able to isolate and stay ahead of the issue.

Speaking of issues, get better soon! I sincerely hope it's nothing incredibly serious and you are back on your feet again soon.
