When I first got into cigars I stopped at the "head shop" down the road to see if they possibly carried anything. This is your typical shop that carries glass pipes, bongs and the litney of sex toys. Well.... they did have a standing cabinet humidor with a box of Victor Sinclairs and I think I remeber maybe some Taboo's or something. Also a couple of tins of flavoreds (Havana Honeys and some other crap). Long story short, I was talking to a friend about Victor Sinclair cigars the other night and it reminded me of the humi that they had wasting away in this drug users supply store. So today I stopped back in. The Victor Sinclairs were gone and the flavored tins were still there. The humi had a few scuffs on it and the interier was a bit littered with old tobacco shavings (maybe from a box or something). The rh on the cabs analogue was 50% and the digital that they had put in was dead. I figure that this humi is about as dry as the desert! So I say to the guy, "You ever think about selling this thing?" The half stoned employee mentioned that he would sell it to me, but that would probably piss off the ower. Keeping with my moral ground... I left the guy my phone number and told him to have the owner call me. So hear is the deal. This was about the closest pic I could find of something similar...

A couple quick questions for my BOTL's... and keep in mind I haven't really used the search function on this... mostly because I wanted to share my experience with this and possibly post some follow up pics if everything works out.

Does the fact that flavored cigars have been stored in it in the past cause concern?
What should I look for with regards to its seal?
Given my description of the product and the ownership, what would you offer... price wise that is?
Anything else relevent to consider? since I have never owned a cab or anything remotely close to one...

Thanks all

If you buy it you will fill it :whistling: .... and still need a cooler

Having the flavored tins in there won't mean a thing. You'll be able to restore the RH in it over a period of time but nothing excessive. Go for it if you can get it.

Offer the guy $200.00, and see what happens. Have the prinout of the one you posted in the link handy if he balks. Show him what a brand new one goes for without the dings and scratches.

I've seen these go for as low as $230-$250 on CBid ( see Tower of Power ), but shipping adds another $185.

Early editions of these humidors had one latch on the door in the center, which caused the doors to warp. Later production have two latches, one on top and one on the bottom.

Good luck with your find; I found a similar but bigger humidor in a liquor store in about the same shape. I asked the owner if he'd be willing to sell it to me. He laughed and told me that "...humidors like that one are worth ten grand at least...". Bit my tongue hard, paid for my grog and left. Still there, empty, and dry as the Arizona desert, last time I went through....

Good Luck - B.B.S.

As far as the seal goes, you just need to look and see if there are any openings along the sides. See if any light gets through where the seal presses up. Also, look at what type of seal it is. If it's rubber, look for any big cracks or gouges. If nothing else, you can put a new seal on it after you buy it.

My first reaction on price was to offer $200 as well and see where he goes from there. If he won't talk, ask him what he was thinking. My first thought, though, was that he wouldn't sell it because it lets him say that it's a cigar shop.

The only caution I'd have is to really give it alot of time with tons of beads to make sure to get the RH back up.
I suspect it'll take awhile to get it up to snuff before you make the conversion!

Nice find! You need the space. No big deal with the flavored "cigars" and as long as they didn't store incense or wacky tobacky in it or wipe it down with cedar oil. It will take some time to rejuvinate the cedar, but do it slow to avid mold. Keep us all posted and good luck. I'm jealous though of the find.

PS - Thanks again for the great smoke Saturday.

Just an update... Never heard back from the bastids! They can keep their stinkin humidor for all I'm concerned. I'll just hit up the old lady for Christmas... ;)
