More NEW INFO, please read to last page.

Hello family,

I live and work in the wonderful State of Michigan.

lately we have had some hard times here. If you are from Michigan or even watch the news sometimes you known all too well what I mean.
It can be a tough place to live right now, so instead of sitting around hoping for good things, why not get together and have a fun time and do something positve.

I have been thinking lately of trying to host a MI herf somewhere in the Southeast, meaning Detroit Metro area.

I myself live in Lansing (middle of the glove for you outsiders), but would be more then willing to travel to meet up with some brothers.

Now, we also may be able to include some Northern Ohio and Indiana guys in this as it is not a far hike from say Toledo to where we might be.

It would be a venue with booze, and I imagine it would start on a Saturday afternoon. Inside of course due to the weather.

I am ONLY gauging interest and trying to get everyone in the area thinking about this and sharing ideas, I want this to be OUR party not mine.

Older brothers here please feel free to leave advice as we all would love to get more ideas on how to make the event special. We know you guys out in CA do it a lot, so please throw some ideas at us.

I really hope this can work and I thank you all.

Much care,

Matthew

Don't rule out us Southern Ohioans out. Depending on when you arrange this (Saturdays are better than Sundays). I was thinking of going to a Tiger's game but could certainly get there before opening day if that is the plan.

Well since Stu will undoubtly be okay with going out of his way to pick me up, I guess I would be in depending on the date.

Just one question though, who's bringing the water???

I will provide all the water you can drink.

OK this is good. a lot fo ideas with an early start.

How far in advnce should we do this?

I know some guys on other forums have a regular monthly herf at a place called Fuse which in Rochester. They usually do theirs on a Tuesday night and get anywhere between 5 and 20 people. Once you get a location down, I can definitely let those guys know as well. In the past what we've done for the Cincinnati herf's is once we get a general idea about the amount of people we have, I usually call around to a couple different places and see what kind of drink and/or food specials I can put together. Usually bars will give some sort of drink specials if you bring in a big group.

Hey, is Indiana the Red Headed Stepchild or something?

Doesn't Ann Arbor have a bar with a ton of craft brews on tap? Not sure about the cigars though.

I also agree with what was previously mentioned, Saturday's usually work better than Sundays.

Blah Ann Arbor. :whistling: Damn Wolverines.

Saturday would be better. There are places all over. There is a Jazz/Cigar bar in Dearborn, haven't been there yet.

Eastside has a bunch of places that are supposed to be nice. It all depends on what we are looking for.

Yes they do...such a good place that I cannot remember the name or anything else about it. Detroit is not a must do, there are plenty of other good spots around up there.

Really the only thing IN Detroit is the Casinos or Gentlemen clubs.

Yeah the Ace Duce has Grizzly Peak, choice craft beers and I believe you can smoke there...It's a bar / resaurant.

On the East side there is quite a bit, I believe we can smoke at Fish bones in St Clair Shores as well as Andiamo's (both are very close to one another.
Gracie's Underground in Ferndale, Robusto's Martini Bar in Grosse Pointe Woods and there are many others.

I'm in Saturday, Sunday whatever day! I'm laid off so I have time, if we need any help organizing I would be happy to do so.

If you want the down town Detroit feel we could check out Sloe's BBQ...Great bar for Beers and Whiskeys.

Great idea Matt, thanks for thinking of us.

Tony

OK Family,

Sounds like Saturday is the best bet.

I used to live in Detroit so I know my way around there pretty well, but it was awhile back so the places have changed some.

I would think we need a place for about 20 by the sounds of it. Now Andiamo's is a great idea, but they between all the locations might not be big enough.

I am thinking more suburburbs then Detroit proper is what everyone is saying?

Let keep the ideas flowing.

Questions:

How far out should we plan.
Do we prefer casual or something more ritzy.
Do we want a bar only, or a place with food and drinks.

Oh, and Indiana is for sure in, silly not to think of it.

I'm in!

I was just talking to bimmer635csi about having a small get together on Saturday the 21st. Location was not decided but we were thinking about Bailey's in Canton. We had a little session there last spring. It is casual and would be large enough for 20+, has food and drinks, and has large screen TVs.

If the 21st is too soon to get the full group together, we could have a small pre-HERF for the "Westsiders".

Andiamos Livonia says that it can handle up to a 50 person party.

Oh OK Bill.

I wonder though if they expect you to order full meals, or if we can just get the room with resturant service.

I will look into it.

Thanks and lets keep the ideas coming.

Edit to add: I called, with no response. It may be hard to find a place like this on a Saturday if everyone is not buying food. I know when I was doing that kind of work I might have said no to a group because I could fill the room with 50 people at $75 a head.

I like their resturants though and will not quit trying.

What about some other places?

How far in advance should we plan?

Are you saying this is a good thing or a bad thing? After 7 months of General Order #1 you can probably figure out my opinion.

Cheers,

Tony

It's nice to have a place to smoke for 3 to 4 hours, won't a resturant want to turn the room even if we do eat? It'd be great to find a place with some "relaxed" rules where we could BYOB.

Could happen. I dont know I have never even been there.

Check this map out. Link

It is missing some places though.
