Marito and I did a trade, and he tossed in one of his Opus X Super Belicosos for me to try, because he'd been disappointed with the cigar.

I sparked it up a few minutes ago; I can't answer any of his construction complaints, because I didn't burn it for more than an inch or so before mashed it into the ground and tossed it into the dumpster.

It's right up there as one of the worst Opus X cigars I've ever smoked; only nascent hints of the Opus X flavor were present. The cigar had a bitter aftertaste that was akin to a mixture of petroleum and unripe lemon, with hints of rubbing alcohol. It was harsh, and rather nasty.

This is not how an Opus X should taste. I can only assume that it's either a massive dud, or these Opus X cigars have been treated poorly somewhere along the way.

Opus X's should taste spicy in a pleasant, jalapeño way, with a sweet, smooth aftertaste that leaves you with a milky taste in your mouth. This cigar was none of that.

If this cigar were my only exposure to the brand, I'd declare them over-hyped dog-rockets. As it is, this is definitely a case of some very bad sticks, likely ones that have been contaminated or treated poorly. I can't even fathom what it'd take to do this to an Opus. Yeesh.

DOG ROCKET! ;)

Do you think they might be counterfeit?
I really doubt they are counterfeit -- the band was right on (though that doesn't mean a whole lot), and buried under the nastiness, there were hints of the trademark Opus X taste.

Thank you. I knew I couldn't be that crazy. These Super Bellies were my only exposure to the Opus X line and I couldn't fathom what everyone was talking about after repeatedly trying to smoke these awful cigars. I can't wait to try a real Opus, which, with the help of moki, should happen soon.

Where did you obtain these Opus X's anyway?

A buddy of mine sent these to me in an informal trade. After I told him they sucked he told me he bought them online (and a what was a ridculous price I might add). I didn't want to name the folks then for fear that I was just being too critical about the gars and 'cause the retailer didn't have a chance to make good. Now that moki has verified that these cigars suck (and probably due to bad handeling, which I can verify is not on my or my buddy's part as we are fastifdious about storage) I called my buddy back and told him the scoop. I just got off the phone with him. He says he contacted the online retailer and told him the complaints and was basically told to screw off.
So...the place he bought them is called CIGARS-NOW.COM. Obviously the vets of this site need no warning about online purchasing, but to the newbies I will say...AVOID CIGARS-NOW.COM, and frankly don't buy overpriced cigars from non-manufactureer approved online sites period. My 2 cents...and my new soap box. Sorry for the rant.

They probly didn't even keep them in a humi  Anyone who doesn't stand behind their product is scum and doesn't deserve patronage. Sorry about your bad experience. Shoot me your addy and I'll send you a well cared for X :)

Never heard of the site that you mention, but I agree whole-heartedly with the latter sentiment. Screw the gougers, do not feed 'em.
