Was wondering if anyone has used marine grade birch plywood in humidor construction. I'm revamping an old cabinet to be used as a humidor. The sides of the cabinet are now glass with the front door being a full glass paned door. Would 3/4" marine ply be suitable for replacing the side panels, that are now glass with ply for a solid wood construction. I am going to make the door solid on the bottom half and glass panes on the top half. and line the inside with 1/4"lauan.

The plywood looks great and I think it would stain well and be very nice looking. Just unsure how it will be in the long run as far as holding form and not warping.

I could use solid slats and join them together to make the side walls, but I don't have all the neccasary tools to do it right. If anyone has used or seen a humi made with quality marine ply please let me know your thoughts.

THX,
LOYD

Should I treat the inside of the cabinet with a water sealer or something before installing the lauan to keep the moisture from being in direct contact with the exterior shell?

Honestly I don't think it's necessary. Consider the RH in general where you live, I see you're from GA, does the humidity outside normally get to say 70%? If so, really then you'd think that you'd need that same material to build your home. Although we are using cabinets to hold in humidity, it's not an absurd amount of moisture. Sometimes I think we can look at it as we're providing an environment where our cigars will not dry out, not necessarily a plaice to moisten them.

Will it hurt to use marine grade, not at all, is it necessary, not in my opinion.

:sign: from May through September we are lucky if it ever goes under 70%.

No doubt!

Yea...It will be HUMID as all get out soon here...lol

So I will probably skip the marine grade and go with Birch. save some cash versus the marine grade.

Thx for the replies.
