Hey All,
I recently made it to "The Tasting Room" in Madison, WI (the web page will be updated soon...so the fellow that helped me out told me). I was a bit apprehensive about visiting another "cigar shop" as the two previous were Knuckleheads (a "smoking accessory" shop) and Hemmingways (a bar that sells cigars).
I was delightfully blown away by the quality and selection of cigars in this shop. Yes, there were a few Acid's and various other flavored cigars, but they were segregated from the real cigars, and were never even mentioned to me by the man who helped me with my selections. There were Ashtons, Punch, RyJ, Olivia, Comanche, Rocky Patel, A. Fuente, and many other recognizable names. I explained that I was looking for smaller smokes for my ride home (30-45 min) and he asked me what flavor/body cigar I liked and pointed me exactly to the size I requested, plus some non-traditional sizes that fit the burn time.
I ended up buying a Olivia Series O (perfecto shaped I think...5" long and tapered at each end with the widest being probably 50rg), an Ashton Heratige puro sol (corona), and an A. Fuente Grand Reserva with the green line on the bottom (petite corona).
And...To top it all off, since they weren't really open (they were having a paid event for the Packer's game...Perdomo was there too) since I bought three cigars he gave me a Perdomo Golf (corona) for free!!! I was pretty psyched...not for the free cigar...but that there is a good tobacconist close to me!!!(well maybe for the free cigar too)
So I smoked the freebie on the way home and it was ok...It left a sweet flavor on the back of my tongue (it reminded me of sassafras root bark that I would chew on as a (younger) kid) . Definitely not a bad thing...Good for a golf 'gar (hence the name...probably)
So...just an FYI to anyone close to the MAD City
