Hey pipe-heads!

I ordered my first pipe (a Missouri Meerschaum) a few weeks ago, and am curious as to what tobaccos you would reccomend to sample?

I don't think I want to try any aromatics just yet, and I don't mind a stronger taste.

Thanks in advance, distinguished pipe-os.

Burley blends are especially good in cobs, but anything is pretty good in a cob as long as it's a good blend to begin with.

There's a thread on here somewhere where many of us named our Top 5 blends. I think it's got "Desert Island" in the title. Some great blends listed in there.

Can you import maize products into Australia? I've heard of others having their cobs confiscated because they are a corn product. I know I've sent one that made it through alright, but I've heard of others having problems.

Welcome aboard brother!! HERE is the Desert Island blends Alan was talking about, alot of good recommendations there. I've never owned a meer before so I can't speak to what blends go best in it, but I've really been enjoying the Penzance lately as well as a couple of Rattray's blends. THIS site has alot of info on a great number of pipe tobaccos that are out there as well. Try a bunch of different ones until you find a combination you like. I've found that this is alot more involved than cigars but it is a great learning journey. Good luck and let us know what you are trying in that new pipe.

Hmm... Didn't know that. Oh well, it arrived today so all good. Thank you lazy customs.

Thanks to you and MoeCizlak for welcoming me into the pipe side of life. I will let you guys know how my first bowl smokes.

Welcome to the other darkside! I just started too, and it's a nice break from cigars every now and then. (...I can't believe I just said that)

Glad it made it there. Maybe those folks didn't know what they were talking about. I'm sure you know more about it than they would being that you actually live in Australia.

All the best. Please let us know your thoughts and experiences.

So I tried my first pipe, but it was not a real first attempt because I smoked a really, really shit tobacco (Borkum Riff or something) and it was a horrid adventure.

It is a little challenging getting good quality pipe tobacco down under.
