The wife and I like to go to auctions and we often end up with boxes and boxes of stuff we resell at yard sales and on Ebay.

I keep stuff for whatever reason and hope that someday I may have a use for it.

Well, it happened with a lighter. Had this thing in my desk drawer for a few years. Been tempted to toss it out a few times, because I never used it.

I got to looking at some pipe lighters and remembered the one in my desk. It has a tamper built in, although I did not know what it was until today.

Turns out it is a Savinelli. Did a Google on the name and WOWSA! :0 Those things are spendy!

It is an older model, but I filled it up and it does work, although not every time. Think it needs to be cleaned or something. Going to have to do some research on cleaning of this lighter to get it to light every time.

To think I was going to toss out this lighter at one point. It was in the bottom of a box of stuff we paid like 2 bucks for if I remember right. Nice score I never knew I made. :)

I need to read up on how to refill a lighter properly. I think that may be part of my problem.

Will post a photo when I get home.

Time to do my happy dance...

Cool, lookin' forward to the pic.

Make sure you purge it all out well and if you have any "canned air" take that and spray the entire lighter very well.

Make sure to fill with good butane (triple refined if you can).

Should be good to go.

It lights about every thrid or fourth strike. Think a good cleaning will solve the problem.

Checked Ebay a little and found a couple of this model/style. Looks like it was made around 1980.

There is some varnishing around the flame outlet. Wonder if lower quality fuel was used in it and it is gummed up a little. That would account for the difficulty in lighting.

Blow out the ingitor and jets with compressed air - 5 or 6 bursts of no more than 2-3 seconds each. That usually is more than enough to get out anything clogging the ports. If it's still not sparking, the ignitor might be out of alighnment. The ignitor can be very fragile, so you might want to take it to someone with experience to try to repair it (it would be worth it for that lighter ;) )
