Low Humidity

I have done a search for this for the past hour and have come up with nothing, so I decidied to get your help.

I have the heartfelt beads 65%humidity and I have a 100ct humidor. But the humidity keeps dropping to around 55% or sometimes lower. How do I get the humidity to come back up. I thought it might be the beads, so I watered them down with distilled water but that never helped the past week.

What do I do next to get my humidity to get around normal. Thanks.

Did you salt test your hygro? Did you season your humidor? Or, did you just wet down your beads and stick it in the humi?

Doc.

In the winter, when the forced air kicks on and the RH in the house goes through the floor, I used to take the sponge humidifiers that came with my humidors, moisten them with distilled water, and put them in with the cigars for a week or so to as required to get the RH back up. Worked like a charm and re-hydrates the beads at the same time. I'd leave them in the humidor for as long at it takes to get up to about 68% then I'd pull 'em out.

Doc is right; make sure you've salt tested your hygro so you can trust the readings.

Good Luck - B.B.S.

Thanks for the quick responses. I will try with the sponge they gave me. But I had the humidor working perfect for the past 4 months. I did all the salt test, seasoned it and etc. I went with the beads once the humidor was ready. I am a newb but not that new. I had it all perfect but it seems like the humidity just keeps dropping.

I will try the sponge, but any other suggestions would be of great help. Thanks.

I have a digital and analog hygro and they are only off from each other 2 degrees. So just to let you know that to.

I just saw you live in N.E. The humidy in your dwelling is probably around 25%. I've done what BBS has done, and it works. It also helps to keep the humi full.

Doc.

Yea I did the measurment and I have more beads then what it called for. So I should be set there. I just loaded up the sponge like BBS said and I will roll with that for a couple of days and see if that will bring it back up. I also watered down the beads as well. I will let everyone know the progress. But if anyone has more suggestions, keep them coming.

Yea DD, I do live in NE, if you live around the CT area and know of any good get togethers, let me know. I would like to meet some CP people soon. Thanks.

Check the seal on your humi. Do the dollar test. It may have been ok 4 months ago but gone out since then.

I had a similar problem and I found a little luck with a few changes. First I moved the humidor to a room that was a little cooler in temperature from the room I had been storing it in. Then I added a clean shot glass full of distilled water and my rh came right back to 68. This is what worked for me, good luck brother.

I am not familiar with the dollar test. Infinity can you tell what to do? Thanks.
Send me a thousand of them and I'll send you back a good humi

Close the lid on a dollar, if you can pull the dollar out your seal is not good. Do this in several places.

I have to try the dollar test. I had the same problem with my humidor. I actually had to pull all of my sticks out just a few hours ago and reseason the damn thing. It's a 150-200 ct. and it's full. I'm only using the sponge that it came with it and Boveda packs. When I pulled all the sticks out and took the packs off the bottom, they were almost dry. Done with the packs.....goin' for the beads tomorrow!!!

I am hydrating the beads about 50-80% that way they still have enough to absorb some of the humidity as well as give off.

Since I first wrote this, my humidity started at 51%, now I re hydrated the beads, added the originial sponge and now the temp is up to 61% and rising, so I think I am on my way.

I will do the dollar trick tomorrow night and update everyone. Thanks to everyone for your help.
