I have really just started to seriously get into the hobby and am looking for suggestions on good cigars to try that will be a little different and some that may take my experience to the next level as far as my tastes go.

So far I have really enjoyed the following:

AF 858 natural
Onyx Reserve
5 Vegas natural
Astral Talanga Valley Selection
RP Vintage 1992
Indian Tabac Classic natural
HdM Excalibur 1066
Perdomo2
Carlos Torano 1959 Silver

I am looking for something to expand on these selections or something completely different that I might like.

Thanks in advance. :D

You will like them a lot.
Try these:

1. Flor De Oliva Grand Maduro Torpedos
2. Don Tomas Classico New Blend Maduro Rothchilds
3. Hoyo De Monterrey Dark Sumatra Espresso Rothchilds
4. La Aroma De Cuba Robustos
5. Padron 1926 #6 Maduro

There are many others, but try these to begin with for now. They are excellent cigars.

ditto on the Hoyo de Monterrey Dark Sumatra, they are a very good smoke...the whole padron line also never has let me down...

try an Ashton VSG, or try anything from Ashton. i've liked everything from Ashton so far

I would have to go with the AF hemmingway short story..smoke one today!!!

I'd agree on anything Fuente or VSG. I enjoy the Partagas Black line also if you're looking to get into the more full bodied stuff. The La Gloria Cubana Serie R#4 is one of my favorites also. I'd also say give the Litto Gomez a try. These are wonderful smokes but, be warned, some people find them to be very strong in the nicotine department.

Try to get your hands on some Fuente with Sungrown wrappers. They have the black band at the foot of the cigar. Or try some JR ultimates (not alternatives) from www.jrcigar.com.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I have a LGC SerieR #4 and a Partagas Black in my humidor right now, just giving them a little rest time before putting them to the fire. Sounds like I may try one of those next.

I've been eyeballing the Dark Sumatra but I wasn't sure if it would be much different than the Excalibur 1066.

How about the 5 Vegas A line? Those seem to get high marks. Would they be comparable to my likings or something a little different?

How about some milder smokes? Is there anything I can keep around to enjoy occasionally (meaning something that doesn't smoke like paper) and also give out to my poker buddies without making them sick (occasional cigar smokers)?

Thanks again, this forum is great.

You need to add Padron regular line as well as Padron Anniversary 1964 in Maduro to your list. Also try Arturo Fuente Don Carlos, they are in my opinion the best Cameroon wrapped cigar on the market.

Flor de Oliva is pretty darn good for the price, as is the connie 9 maduro herewhich is a little smaller but very tasty. these are both about a buck each
JR ults are a good smoke in the $3 range
R&J bullies are a pretty good mild smoke. they are great for passing out to occaisional smokers who will recognize the name and wont think you are giving them the cheap stuff. you can pick up a 5 pack at JR for about $12. For a mild monster cigar the JR special jamaican isnt bad. Not the most flavorful cigar, but its cheap, lasts a long time and wont knock any of your poker buddies out

JR has a lot of 5 packs, but shipping is a little pricy unless you are already placing an order.

Anything from Padron, Romeo Y Julieta Bully's are good, Arturo Fuente Chateau's in any flavor or length, CAO's Brazilia, Italia, MX2 or blacks are great, Indian Tabac Cameroon Ledgend or Super Fuertes, anything from Rocky Patel....

Wow, some great suggestions here guys! :D

I really appreciate being able to come and get advice from some folks who know that of which they speak. I'm kind of alone here being newer in town and I don't have a lot of cigar smokers to compare notes with as this is quite the anti-smoking region. We only have 1 really good shop within 2 hours and it isn't all that great (a lot of Roly's and Macanudo. Thank God they have my Onyx Reserve though).

Thanks again, and keep 'em coming!!

:D :D

Oh yes, I agree whole heartedly with Matty Vegas in that you ought to try a Fuente Hemingway. I had my first one last week and it is a terrific smoke! By the way, if you really like Perdomo2's, I've got a handful that I'd be up for trading if you're interested. I'm not a big fan of them (but got several in a sampler a few months ago) - send me a PM if you'd like to do a trade for them.

Hard to go wrong with the regular Padron for a regular smoke. I like the 3000 the best. If you like something a little heartier get the Maduro version. Fuente Chat, Double Chat or the Cuban Beli size w/ Sungrown are the must tries as well.
