Hello,
I have had my new small cabinet humidor for about a month now. Every day the RH is between 65-67% but when I wake up in the morning the RH is up 3-4%. During the day it goes back to 65-67%.

I have done some searching and cannot seem to find a good explanation for this. I would think it may be the other away around where the RH would drop at night and come back up during the day. I live in the Boston area and it still getting cold at night and the heat comes on I am not sure if that has anything to do with it or not.

I am wondering if anyone else has had this type of problem or can give me a possible explanation as to why this would happen. I am still using the passive humidifer that came with the humidor as i wait for the Hydra to arrive so I am hoping that this will help slove that problem.

Best Regards
Don

I wonder if it is something as simple as that you open it during the day, which drops the humidity, and then keeping it shut at night allows the humidity to creep back up.

Edit for lousy typing skills

The weather is definitely a factor IMO. However, don't worry about a few degrees fluctuation, the average sounds ok over a 24 hour period.

If you haven't already done so, purchase 65% RH beads, at least 20 - 30 % more than your humidor requires, this will keep the fluctuation down
in any weather. If you do have beads in there, increase the quantity.

Thanks for the replies I am also going to purchase some beads along with the Hydra. I have not opened the humidor in about a week now that is what is strange I have a couple of smaller humidors that I store smokes that I will be lighting up.

I am not worried about it because it never really gets above 70% I just figured it would be the reverse higer during the day and lower at night. The only thing I can think of is at night the bedroom door is closed all night and during the day it is open.

Best Regards

Is it located near a vent?

It is about 5 feet from a heating vent in the bedroom never really thought of that.

Do you have your thermostat set to heat at night and cool during the day? That could also explain it, especially if your humi is near the heat vent.

Yes I believe that may very well be what has been happening it has been fairly warm during the day and cold at night and the heat comes on. I was under the impression that the temp. does not affect the RH levels?

RH stands for RELATIVE humidity, so yes, changes in temperature will impact the %.
