Looking for advice

I am not a cigar aficionado, but a good friend turning 60 on Saturday is. His wife is throwing a surprise party for him and I would like to get him box of really good cigars as a gift. My price range is $300-$400. I assume that should allow me to get something good. But I need them in hand by Saturday (8/25) AM. I am located in Northeastern PA. Of course my thought was Cubans, which I would still like to do, if possible, but I see that the board policy is not to discuss sources for Cubans – unless via PM or e-Mail. Please email me at XXXX if you like. I am also happy to provide a telephone number if someone would prefer to discuss ear-to-ear.

I realize it may be too late to pull this off, but I thought I would give it a try. I suspect he has already had anything real good that is for sale at local smoke shops. I would like to get him something he would never get on his own. I am willing to pay for overnight delivery if needed.

All suggestions (as specific as possible given my ignorance on this subject) are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Removed email address.

IN terms of getting anything from the island south of Miami it is probably too late. But since you live in PA there is a site based there called Atlanticcigar.com. They have a gigantic selection and will provide overnight delivery (and it actually might end up being overnight). A nice box of Pardron anniversary or 1926 would make a great gift to anyone that smokes cigars! What a good friend!

The ones you recommended seem to be on backorder. I see that the ones below are highly rates by Cigar Aficiando:

I was thinking about going with the box of 20. I am willing spend more if there is something special you would recommend, These are only $175/20=$9 cigar -- doesn't seem very special. But if these are really the best I can get my hands on, so be it. But if there is something better I can get --- something like a box of 12 for $250 - $300, I will go there. But I don't want to spend more money just to spend it -- but if there is something better, I am willing to do it.

Thanks for the help.

EDIT: Found the Padron's on another site. I am good to go. Thanks.

I can't believe no one blazed you for requesting info about Cubans via email. Poor forum etiquette.

Read a sticky that specifically said when asking about Cubans to request it via e-mail.

Regardless, I am good to go now, plus you got a chance to flame me and feel good about yourself. Plus you got to post again. Good work.

Ivan, you weren't a Navy Corpsman were you?

Ivan, if you are a reasonable person, I'm sure you can understand that the forum comes down hard on new folks that show up and asks for help in purchasing illegal goods. We don't know who you are, nor what your motives are. Discussion of purchasing illegal goods isn't allowed on this forum, and soliciting help doing same via PM or e-mail is very much frowned on.

You have two paths which should be obvious. This is a fantastic forum full of solid information from folks that have decades of experience....it's worth staying around for. Or you can keep up the "drive by" and see where that goes. That choice is entirely up to you.

Ivan, glad you got what you needed here. Now please move along politely.

That was my intent, but you just had to push the issue. I think I just may stick around a bit.

Theres no reason to be confrontational this a self moderated forum, and quite frankly ChiefMd is right. Every person on this forum has been corrected or something they've done, so you can just take the advice and move on or I'm sure it will work itself out.

I read this thread before posting:

http://www.cigarpass.com/forumsipb/topic/3244-sources/

Which clearly suggest that all information on Cubans be done via PM or email. So I provided an address for people to send me info if they chose. If not, I was more than happy to receive suggestions for high-end cigars from other countries. I received such a suggestion and have since made a purchase.

The whole issue of Cubans has now been carried on for many more posts by people claiming this subject should not be discussed here. If that is the case, why won't you let it die? I had no intention of posting again after post #5 in this thread, but people felt the need to lecture me -- despite having following the specific instructions in the link above.

I'm more than happy for this to be the last post in this thread, but I am willing to bet that there will be others who will insist on continuing it.

must have been an angry corpman.

Not necessary. It makes you look bad and reflects badly on the board.
