My current humidor has lost its seal. I think this is due to the front slat coming loose . There is a visible gap at the corner junction. So, my planned remedy to this problem is to buy a small vinotemp and either A stick my humi in it, or the tray from the humi, beads and my cigars. I will measure the inside dimensions and see if I need to buy more beads or not, and plan on using a mix of floral foam and beads until I have the right amount of beads. I don't think you can season a vinotemp as the metal should not soak up moisture. This will also fix my temperature problem since I've always been running a bit too warm. My question to the community is am I missing anything big that would doom this plan to failure?

Dont buy any smaller than a 28 bottle.Mine is getting to the point that Ill soon have to start playing "box tetrus".
I use the trays out of my humi I glued a tray divider to each side of the tray so it slides in the rack grooves.
I hope to eventually get trays from mtmouse

umm pics?

HERE is my setup. You can also run a Vinotemp search. Basically you need beads, a drainage system and cigars. GO!

Pics of my setup are in my albums sorry dont know how to post here

Putting your desktop humi inside the Vinotemp will work, but it won't be long until you run out of room, trust me. I did that for a month or so but then realized since I have the extra space, why not pick up some boxes?

Also I agree with a 28 bottle being the smallest. It will fill up quickly. Even after just purchasing a couple cedar trays for singles... right there you've taken up a good 1/4 - 1/3 of the space. And since the inside is made of plastic with metal shelves, you'll want to contact either mtmouse or Niteseer to have them build you some custom cedar shelves and trays, this helps greatly with both keeping that smell of cedar around as opposed to plastic and to regulate humidity if you have a lot of singles.

Once I added three shelves from mtmouse I immediately noticed that familiar smell of cedar I was missing once I switched to the Vinotemp.

Thanks for the advice guys. I ended up buying a small one, although I will likely wish i went bigger later. For the foreseeable future I think this will work fine for me as I doubt I will be buying boxes or many singles at the rate I'd like. It looks like I wasn't missing anything major in my plan. Now to get it up and running. Thanks again.

It seems like a lot of people prefer the vinotemp over any of the cheaper wine coolers. I really don't have a whole lot to contribute as I only have a 50 count at the moment.

Not necessarily true...I have had problems with some, and success with others. I have had 3 or 4 of these, and only 1.5 of them work. If I found a different brand for the same cost in the future, I would probably give it a go. I returned the first 2 because they were basically broken in the box. They are not very sturdy. My 3rd unit has been awesome and I think it is because it is a much older model. My fourth unit was owned for my dad for 6 months before he gave it to me. It barely...and I mean BARELY cools. I have screwed with it, replaced parts, checked wiring....still barely cools. Vinotemp is not the be all end all.
