Looking for a new humidor

So I'm in the market to get my first humidor and I've been looking around at all the things on here and people keep saying go bigger for everything. So I was originally planning on a 50 ct but I think ill upgrade and get a 100 ct. I was looking around some websites and I thought the CAO Black 100 ct humdor was pretty sweet looking along with the Rocky Patel 100 ct. Not sure if these are quality humidors but they look pretty nice. Anyone have any experience with them? Or have better recommendations? Oh and I'm going to get heartfelt beads to put in after seasoning my humidor.

It depends on your budget. If you don't want to spend too much, they will probably be fine. Though still too small, I promise you that. If looks are not a option go with a cooler and if money is not an option look for a Vinotemp wine cooler.

im trying to keep it under $250

If you're dead set on a humidor you can get at least a 300 ct for that price and you will be glad you did. A 100 Ct doesn't actually hold 100, much less in fact. For $250 I'd say go ahead and get yourself a vinotemp and you'll save yourself some money down the road.

take a look at tampahumidor.com they have a good selection of quality humidors, and plenty under $250 if you are set on getting a traditional humidor. If you looking for storage and to save money think about a coolidor, just buy a cooler and some humidity beads (I would also recommend a few cedar trays). You'll need the coolidor eventually.

I started with a 50 ct. Then I got a free 20 ct from CI, then another, then another.

I then purchased a giant (so I thought) 100 ct. UGH,,,,

Now I have a 28 ct Vinotemp and the little humis rest inside that.

With beads of course.

Damn this place

Unless you are buying specifically for looks, don't bother with a traditional humidor. Spend $150 max for a Vinotemp or half that for a huge cooler. Basically, anything that holds less than 300 to 500 *actual* cigars (which no desktop humidor that calls itself a 300 stick humidor will) you are wasting your money.

I had originally had 1 and then 2 150-200 count desktop humidors. The first Vinotemp I bought held more than both of them combined and cost about the same as each. Eventually I was running 2 Vinotemps and 2 60 or 70 qt coolers. As they approached capacity I finally made the jump and bought an Avallo Triple D that easily held everything I had and had room for plenty more. I still keep a single Vino in my office for ease of access to my nightly smokes but the Avallo has been stupendous and was definitely worth the money.

This point gets made again and again to newer guys thinking about humidors but it bears repeating - any desktop model you are thinking about will almost certainly be too small by the time it arrives.

At this point, any serious (cabinet style) humidor is likely too big and expensive for you so go with the large and inexpensive solution: Vino and/or coolers and wait and see how things go. You can buy more smokes with the money you save and if you really get in to cigars you can always upgrade to a furniture style humidor. If not, no great loss and either way you'll still have a great cooler for picnics or a fridge for your wine/beer/soda.

Welcome and good luck!

- Tim

EDIT: I wanted to add that there are plenty of guys with many 100's and even 1000's of cigars that only use coolers and are happy as hell and laugh all the way to the cigar shop with the money they saved not buying a big humidor unit like I did. I would have done the same but I wanted my cigars to be somewhat on display in my house so I need a good looking piece of furniture.

if you are dead set on one of those two that you mention, i have dealt with both and can tell you that the CAO Black one is bigger than the RP one.
i have an RP that i use for my good sticks cause i dont have a lot of good sticks and it has a lock.

this is the RP

it works but its not going to hold 100

i brought the CAO black for my cuz to give to his dad and its much bigger and its more like this one

but it comes with a lock and thats always a plus in my world

edit: but as i have learned and you can look at my post about my humidors

you should start big and avoid all the collected humi's. so if 250 is your budget i would look into a vinotemp, there was a post about getting it direct from Vinotemp for 199 with free shipping before 2/14/09.
that leaves you 50 bucks for beads
