I posted in a thread in the hot deals section, but i didn't want to end up thread jacking. And I figure I would get better ideas here.

I drew up what Im looking for. The jist of it is, my grandfather passed a few months back, and I'd like to buy something from him that would be very special, and stay with me for a long time. So im thinking of the perfect wine / humidor hutch.

Anyone ever seen anything like this?

While I don't understand how you're going to buy something from your passed Grandfather the cabinet is nothing that any furniture maker couldn't do. You might want glass doors on the bottom too so it doesn't get dusty too quickly.

My grandfather had a very small fund set aside for all his grandkids for when they get married, and I'm getting married this summer. I could put it toward the wedding, but I'd rather put it toward something that will stay with the family for many years to come.

When my Grandmother past away many years ago we had a similar situation. With the money I received I purchased a beautiful solid oak, custom made, dining room table. This way everytime my family gathers around our dining room table we can celebrate my granparents. Every now and then I remind the kids of this story so they will always remember it and know how special that table is to our family.

I fail to see the humor in the situation... :(

I think he thought you were aware the possible humor inherent in choosing to spend the money on yourself as opposed to on the wedding. (assuming your fiancee would rather you spend the money on your wedding)

But I think the point is having something permanent, regardless of the use, rather than spending the money on something temporary and intransient.

Yeah, I figured he wasn't talking about my grandfather... :D

The wife does know that I want to spend it on something more permanent/memorable instead of on the wedding.

She may not know that it revolves around wine and cigars!!!!
