Looking for a decent lighter

My smoking frequency doesn't seem to jibe with the use of a Zippo right now. It seems as though I'm losing more fuel to evaporation than I am to use. I have a Xikar Element, but I will not use a torch (especially a double torch) to light my pipes. Matches are OK, but I'd really like to find a decent soft flame butane lighter. I know the Corona Old Boy is the standard, but I just can't bring myself to pay more for a lighter than I have paid for 99% of my pipes even though I know they are wonderful lighters.

Anybody have any suggestions?

I did buy a Old Boy recently which works wonderfully. It can also double as a soft flame lighter for cigars. You can find them online at $100 or less; if it proves as durable as everyone says, that's a better investment than two or three cheaper lighters.

Alan, do a Google search for them. There's a vendor online who is moving them at $75 (for some models) but I can't remember who. If I can get the info I'll post again.

Zippo lighters will lose fuel, but i still use them. i live in a very dry climate and i need
to fill it more than i would like, but i think if you cost it out, using a little more fuel will still be
the lowest total cost over buying and maintainng a butane. also try storing your zippo standing upright if you can, this seems to help some. also refuel a little more often but don't soak the wadding as much.

i also use ronsonol fuel, it's less expensive than zippo fuel and performs just as well. Wal-Mart
has the best price.

I was just looking at Mars Cigars this morning. They have the Old Boys for $75 in a few different finishes. From what the guys I know who have them have said, they are indestructible......and pretty classy.

I'll check the usual websites. $75 is certainly more justifiable to me than $125.

I'm not concerned about the cost of the Zippo fuel, it's the pain in the ass of having to fill it all the time. Once spring/summer rolls around it will be fine, but in the constant forced air heat of winter, it's just not working out. I have used Zippos since I was 16 years old, that's not going to change. However, every tool has its proper time and place.

EDIT TO ADD: I went ahead and got the Old Boy. All black model was $72. That seems like a very good price. If it's as great as everyone says, I'll be VERY happy with the purchase. Thanks for teh heads up. :)

Ronson @ wal-mart...less than 5 bucks...and comes filled and ready to go...len

Kayak Rat beat me to the update, but Mars and Cup 'o Joes were the two sites mentioned as having them at $75 to $79.
Enjoy your new lighter Alan!!
