Looking for a cigar that "mimics" the anejo

I'm wondering if someone might point me in the right direction on this. I am really fond of the flavor profile of the AF Anejo and I'm wondering if there is something out there, Fuente or other, that somewhat mimics the flavor but is a little easier to find. The only cigar I've had that attempts to accomplish the same thing is the La Aurora Barrel Aged and lets face it, it doesn't even come close!

From what I've tried the Oliva serie G maduro is somewhat similar with the sweetness and spice, but the same flavor profile obviously isn't quite there (though that is also a great smoke).

I guess I'm just looking for a few suggestions of what I can find on a more regular basis with that flavor profile for close to the same price.

Thanks once again for the help!

Can't go wrong with the Liga Privada T52 or original El Triunfador Lancero.

I'm thinking the Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro wrapper is a large part of the flavor of the Anejo. There's a cigar I've noticed had the same wrapper but I haven't had one is the ONYX maduro. Could maybe try those.

Good luck with that quest....as a fellow Anejo whore, I'll be very surprised if you find anything that comes close. That's why having some storage is nice; you CAN find boxes around the holidays. Not easy, but they are out there.

As Morpheus said in The Matrix; ".....there can be...only one..."...

Good luck - B.B.S.

With the economy in the tank, I'm finding that HTF cigars aren't that hard to find. Look a little harder. You may surprise yourself.

Doc.

Huh, never thought of this. Thanks, Doc.

Thanks everyone else for the suggestions so far as well! Ben, I'm gonna see if I can locate that Liga Privada at my B&M. I know they have a few there but I'm not sure about that particular stick.

I thought that was from the Highlander.

I like the LP's a lot, and have some in my cabinet. Never even occurred to me to compare them to an Anejo, but YMMV.

Thought it was from the first movie.....you guys are still probably right.

Still applies to Anejo's, though........;)

I know you do not want to hear this answer but here you go. I'm a huge Anejo #48 whore and the only one that even reminds me of it is the Casa Fuente Churchill. I know that isn't the answer you was looking for.

I did age some LFD DL Chisels for a year. They reminded me of a Opus X when it came to a Raspberry taste. I'm not joking either. I couldn't believe it. You may want to look into trying that and see if you have the same experience as I did. I was shocked enough that I let Opus XKC try it and he even found it to be similar.

Me too, Loren. #48's are my fave, followed by #49. Sharks are cool, but they aren't my favorite in the line.

On the contrary! I'm looking for any answer that is out there. That's the best part is seeing everyone's varying opinions on the matter. Plus it makes for a more diverse selection to choose from.

I do have an LFD DL Chiselito that is aging right now so I'm now very anxious to see if it turns out like your experience.

It was nearly a year old or already past it. I had started buying pairs of cigars to start aging at the time. I blame OpusXKC for getting me to start aging cigars. Before that time frame, I never did. This LFD DL Chisel was one of the first I had in a pair. I gave one to my best friend to try and I fired the other one up. I let OpusXKC try it after what I picked up and he agreed with me. I was completely blown away. I hope others can have the same experience as I did.

You got me, Loren. I just put a couple La Flor Chisels in the time capsul. 2011 can't get here soon enough!

Thanks,
Eric

I'm a big Anejo fan as well...it's one of my top cigars and my favorite from the Fuente line. Favorite would be the Shark folowed closely by the 46. I am a noob not only to CP, but to cigars; however I have smoked a lot of them over the past few years. Honestly, I have not come across anything that tastes like an Anejo. I guess that is part of what makes them so unique. Oh...and trust me...don't waste your time on the Onyx...not even close. I also smoke a lot of Liga Privada No. 9 as well and I don't find that they taste like Anejos either - at least not IMHO. Can't speak for the T-52 as I've only smoked a few and they don't really agree with my palate. Still taste is subjective and different for everyone I guess. Best bet would be to stock up on the Anejos when and where you can find them, as BBS suggested. Anejos have not been too hard to find. Like Doc stated this crappy economy have made a lot of HTF cigars into ETF cigars. Do a little leg work and I am sure you can turn some up. I wouldn't give up on my Anejos as there is just no substitute. Good luck...
