I got this beautiful stick from a bomb from a very generous brother!
I paired it with some Killer Beans Venezulan Vendetta which accompanied this stick in the bomb.
It's wrapper is dark and mottled and so oily it appears oil has been painted on the wrapper.
There are some major veins in the wrapper but it doesn't take away from the beauty of the stick.
Construction appears to be very solid but there are soft spots.
I attribute the soft spots to the thickness of the wrapper which would make it more difficult to get the wrapper flush with the binder and filler.
I cut the stick with the ol' Palio and take a pre-light draw.
It reveals a slightly sweet taste with a sourness on my lips.
I toast the end and start the smoking process on this rather large cigar.
Immediately I am rewarded with flavors of chocolate with hints of nuts.
The flavors are nice and bold here.
I am able to nose the cigar easily.
The cigar now is producing flavors of toast and molasses.
The cigar starts canoe-ing despite being dry boxed courtesy of the Postal service.
The second quarter brings more nut flavors - hazelnut with a touch of coffee and cream.
A subtle tart cherry flavor teases me every once in a while.
The creamy hazelnut flavor is much more pronounced now and a spicy peppery flavor developes.
Cocoa and cherry is now kicking and I am loving it.
At this point the flavor isn't as full bodied as I expected but a very nice medium bodied smoke.
The third quarter the body returns to full bore.
Nuts are predominant and the cocoa flavor is very strong.
The smoke is nice and creamy here and I begin to detect a pistachio flavor.
The last quarter the nicotine is starting to kick in.
I debate on whether to continue with smoking the stick.
The flavors are so nice I decide to suck it up.
The burn evens out for a minute and then the stick starts tunnelling severely.
The cigar gets nice and spicy at the end.
A VERY enjoyable smoking experience!
A smoke not recommended for light weights!
To me it started off like a RyJ Churchill ISOM and finished like an Opus.
I can't imagine what these will be like with age on them but I suspect they will be even more awesome!
Thanks a million to the brother who gave me this wonderful experience!
If you can find 'em buy 'em!
Sorry no pics this time!
