Ok, this will be my first "official" review.
I will freely admit that I had really high hopes for this smoke before I ever acquired one. I was not disappointed.
Appearance and construction: The wrapper was smooth, with no discernible major veins, slightly oily, actually silky feeling. It was firmly rolled and wrapped, with both ends clean and tight. It had a very hefty, solid feel when rolled between the fingers. 14 points.
Flavor: This was one of the smoothest tasting cigars I have smoked, to date. Remember, I'm still a "premium" rookie. I detected NO sharpness on the palate, only a creamy, leathery taste, with a slight woodiness. I don't know how to describe other flavors, but it had a hint of sweetness to the smoke, as well. At first I was surprised at the lack of "tang" or peppery sensation, thinking it was a little bland, but each draw was just remarkably smooth with the above mentioned flavors. It didn't seem terribly complex, just very consistent. Overall I'd give it 23 points.
Smoking characteristics: It clipped cleanly and crisply, had a good smooth pre-light draw, and lit effortlessly. The burn and draw was excellent for the first 2/3 of the smoke, but got a little tight during the last 1/3. I actually got a little tar taste from the tight draw. I finally tried rolling the head between my fingers to see if it would loosen up, and it did, which brought the draw back to the original ease. There was no tunneling or uneven burn, even when the draw tightend up. 22 points
Overall impression: I really liked the cigar. I wish I could afford to smoke an 8 dollar stick every day, but, I'm married. Nuff said. This stick is a little larger than I usually smoke, being a 7 1/8 by about 52 gauge, but somehow just felt balanced in the hand. The wrapper appears to be a natural, not a maduro at all. The total experience was great, with that smooth, silky taste, and the mouth-watering aroma of the smoke hanging in the air. This is the second one of these I've smoked, and have been well pleased both times.
I gave it 31 points, which would have easily been 33 if there had been no draw problems. I guess the total would be a 90 on this go-'round. It's tempting to just say I give it a 95, but I'm trying to be objective, and accurate. I really did like it, and as of now, it's probably going to be my "go-to" premium.
Does that make me the official LGC whore now?
I guess the PAN 64 Imperial will be next. :whistling:
