This is my first experience with the La Flor Dominicana Factory Press.
I've had other vitola's of the LFD and have always been happy with them and have gone back for more...but this one is special!!
Besides the fact that it is a monster...60 ring and about 6.5 inches...which is a little intimidating to me...I tend to like robusto's or corona's. It is (like said before, by Moki) like sticking a plank of wood in your mouth...very big cigar.
The appearance and construction of this monster were perfect. The wrapper was flawless and the cap was perfect. The box-press (hence the name) was into a perfect rectangle, somewhat like the Padron 40th, but much bigger. It is packed in the rack that it is pressed in...they take it from the press and put it into the box...nice presentation.
I cut the cap with my trusty Xikar and off it went smoothly.
The pre-light draw perfect. There was a slight spiciness to the taste which was kinda like a pepper/Tobasco flavor...like it!
Lighting this cigar took about an hour!!! It took to the flame nicely and fired up quickly...and exactly as I knew would happen...the spice started rolling in with the smoke. The first inch was as spice bomb...kinda like with the first few drags of an Opus X. Lots of smoke and plenty of jealous stares from the others who saw me pull this out of my pocket.
As I really got into this cigar, the spice began to change into a full-bodied smoothness that I haven't had in a long time. The balance was near perfect, the spice was still there but it mellowed out and let the other flavors come through. Those of the most dominant being strong coffee, light fennel, and tobacco. There was a hint of oakiness and the back ground of Tobasco...yet was very creamy smooth at the same time.
Through the middle third it stayed smooth and tasty and then into the last third it picked up the spice again and ran with strong spice until the last inch...still with the creaminess of before.
I believe that of all of the LFD Ligero line this was the nicest and smoothest of them all. I do have to say that since this was such a large cigar...I may not be smoking them as much as I want. It took too long for me...
But on the CI scale I have to give it a very real 90. I do believe that most of you here would agree. Fantastic cigar with a fantastic presentation.
Strongly recommended...
