My best friend Ray called me up yesterday (Sunday) saying he had some beer he wanted to bring for us to try out, so I happily said to come on over. He showed up around 1 p.m. and we went out to sit back and relaxed on the porch. A couple of the beers were Buffalo Bill's and Smutty Nose Pumpkin Ale, which went down pretty good, 'specially the Smutty Nose that had a good bit of spice to it. Good stuff! Ray put fire to a Boli PC while I had a Tat Noellas. After the Pumpkin Ale was gone, I grabbed an Avery Fifteen Anni that I recall had hibiscus and black fig amongst other ingredients (many thanks to Chico for sending, an awesome brother). Ray's first swig made him look like a rabid dog as he started foamin' at the mouth and choakin'! Shame I didn't catch him on camera cuz it was kinna funny, too much foam. It was definitely a different kinna beer that Ray didn't let go to waste. After that, we both put fire to a Tat Petit Cazadores Reserva, and I cracked open an Abyss Reserve 2009 Stout that was absolutely fantastic, again thank you Chico for the awesome b-day presents!

Needless to say, it was an awesome lazy Sunday afternoon that we both thoroughly enjoyed.

You're welcome Greg but the Avery Fifteen didn't come from me... :sign:

Glad you liked the Abyss. How does it compare to bal aged Ten Fiddy?

Edit:

Did you guys finish the 15th? I've had it before and its one skunky/funky beer. Some people love it but I still haven't acquired the taste. And if possible, let the Speedway Stout age til next year. I cracked mine open and it was way too hot for me...too much alcohol in the taste.

This is my favorite season for beer! The Pumpkin Ales, and the Winter Lagers!! I may have to plan a trip to Ye Ole beer store this weekend!

Greg,

Did the Abyss you cracked open have a sour taste? The other beer thread mentions that Abyss bottles might be infected. No health concerns just curious if the flavor was off.

Oh snap! I'm racking my brain trying to remember who sent the Avery now! I only drank a small amount of the Avery, wasn't really my cup'o beer; however Ray said, "Well we can't let it go to waste" and drank it down. We actually drank the Speedway a couple weeks ago and oh MAN it was good! No aging on that one.

Hard to say not having ever had one of these before, it may have had some bitterness to it; however I definitely remember being able to taste molasses.

The bitterness should be there. As long as it wasn't a sour mess, then its all good. Hell, as long as you enjoyed it that's all that matters.

Good to hear as I have a few more from the same shop.

I've gotta say, that Buffalo Pumpkin Ale is mighty tasty.
