La Riqueza #2
5 1/2 x 52 torpedo
Wrapper: Naturally Dark Connecticut Broadleaf

Prelight: Dry, musty, strong tobacco scent. This is described as an Old World medium bodied Cuban style cigar. The wrapper has many small bumps, or 'blisters' (vitolas.net - internet cigar forum celebrity rock star status Moki). I was warned at Tobacco Grove, the B&M of purchase, to have a full meal before smoking the La Riqueza.

The cigar introduces itself with a nice balance of cocoa, coffee and tobacco. None of the three are more overpowering than the others. The draw is very good. The ash is a dark grey and holds tightly to about an inch and a half. It then falls like a bomb and scatters into the folds of my shirt. What are ya gonna do? Better there than the laptop keyboard.

The second third of the La Riqueza did change a bit; some vanilla came on and the smoke turned pleasantly creamy. The tobacco flavor was still present (imagine that), but the coffee and cocoa were David Blaine (poof-gone).

Yep, that picture sucks. Kingants should give us all a little Photography 101.

The final third of this cigar, I thought, was a damn good representation of Nicaraguan tobacco with a naturally dark Connecticut broadleaf wrapper. Whatever the hell that means. A very pleasant maduro flavor just took over in the last third. No 'hints of', or 'subtle' this or that; this flavor ran the rest of the show, and was enjoyable to the nub. How would I describe it? Well, that's the surprise ending I don't want to ruin for anybody who hasn't tried this fine cigar.

Conclusion: Some folks have likened the La Riqueza to the Padron maduros, I personally didn't get that. I think the construction was very similar to the Padrons, but the Padrons use sun-grown Nicaraguan tobacco and I've yet to taste anything similar to their blends. I do agree that this was a medium-bodied cigar, but I can see where it might put the hurtin on an unexperienced newbie biznatch such as Robbie or Brent. Overall, I did enjoy this cigar and will keep an eye out for a fiver.

I appreciate the review. Based on the positive comments that I've read so far, I will definitely give La Riqueza a try.

Thanks Again,

Mark

I don't ghet that either but it is a Med bodied cigar i really liked and will buy more of. I like the larger ringed ones a bit more than the smaller that I have tried.

Oh, so that's how we're playing this now? I'll remember that the next time you come down this way.

Speaking of which, you guys still thinking of coming down for Litto?

Nice review Mick. I did not concentrate hard enough on the one I smoked to pick out any certain flavors. I just know that I enjoyed it.

I just bought one of each to give a whirl, so that I can decide which one I want to buy a box of to put away.

Wish I could make it for that, Litto is a guy I'd love to chat with. He appears very down to the ground, and always looks kind of drunk in his photos. He could be family. :)

One of my favorite cigars... Great review! I didn't find it to be a cigar that required a full meal prior to smoking, however. Like you, I enjoyed the great taste of the tobacco in the later portion of the stick.

Good review Mick. The No.2 is the only size I haven't tried yet but I agree with your review, especially the way the flavors all mellow after a bit, remaining strong but becoming creamy.

Tasty smokes to be sure but I wish they were a little less expensive.

That's exactly what I told my buddy as I smoking the #2 last week. It didn't wow me enough to want to spend $9+ on them when I can get a similar profile from less expensive smokes.

Good review, Mick. I've heard the Padron comparisons and was kind of intrigued.

I guess I'll add this one to the list.

I really enjoy these smokes. They have a unique flavor profile to them that reminds me of a strong, just slightly sweetened iced tea, very cool / cold. It's not quite exactly like that, but it's the closest I can come to describing it.

Great review. I have the cigar and it's great! A little on the costly side.

Excellent review!

Very good smokes and I agree, nothing like a Padron, a profile that is unique, IMO.

I like these alot. I think they are well worth the price.

You can get them for $8.50 a stick, which is very reasonable in my book.

I'mma have to get hold of one of these Riqueza smokes, give it a try....thanks for the review!
