Thanks to the generosity of a fine BOTL, I had 3 different levels of La Luna to try out.
They were: LHB claro toro, LHB maduro pyramid, LHB 2XL corona.
As a general observation, these are fine smokes. All had impeccable construction, smooth wrapper, no soft spots, no veining. The first 2 had minor burn problems, but easily corrected. The 2XL burned dead straight. Ashes on all three held on well past 2 inches.
Each produced volumes of thick, creamy smoke. The flavor profiles were as follows.
1. LHB claro: mild smoke, reminded me of Baccarat or Nationals, but with a very distinct, floral and spice profile. Medium finish. This would be a good quality cigar for those who like milder smokes, or to introduce someone to cigars.
2. LHB maduro: Beautiful pre-light aroma, very rich. Flavor of espresso and bitter chocolate. Draw got a little tight, but massaging the head cleared that up. I really hated to put this one down, but that narrow pyramid opening let the smoke get a little too hot at the 1 inch mark.
3. LHB 2XL: This was supposed to be the strongest of the three, but it was actually quite polite and presentable. Produced the most smoke on each pufff, despite being the smallest ring. Long finish, but the flavor was not up to the maduro.
Given the priices, these are a great value in quality smokes. I highly recommend them for their distinctive flavors and smoking quality.
Oh yeah, I also had the chance to smoke an aged Bon-Bon Figurado a while back. This had to be one of the most unusual cigars I've ever had, both in shape and flavor. If you've got a spare $25, spring for 10 of these. If you can't stand them, I'll take them off your hands immediately.
Hmmmm, got a little wordy, didn't I.
