Well folks, I went off the deep end today. I bought a FLD Factory Press and smoked it. I also have 2 for the Humidor. Then I decided after seeing the La Gloria Cubana Serie R Limitada Maduro cigar, I figured I would try this bad boy.

The cut went smooth. The cigar had some nice tooth action going on as well. Very well constructed and no real serious veins in the wrapper. Woot..I picked a winner I believe. I got it all warm and lit this stick up. Its a pretty good sized stick.

As i smoked it, I picked up on several distince flavors and transitions throughout the cigar. It had a nice roasty, nutty taste which went from start to finish. There was no doubt this was a La Gloria Cubana Serie R. It also reminded me of some coffee as well. To be specific, it reminded me of some Costa Rican coffee I picked up while down there. I just wished I had some coffee while I smoked this one and preferably a mocha to be exact. I do not know anything about this cigar whatsoever other than it was a monster in size and to lazy to search the web with my bad connection.

At the end tho, the smoke did become a little hot if I took big puffs. So I ended up with smaller puffs. The draw was fantastic from start to finish. Plenty of smoke off each puff. It did really kick it up a notch near the end. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give this bad boy a 9.5. I liked it more than most Padron Anni's and 1926's i've smoked. Yes, you heard me right. I highly recommend this bad boy and even if you didnt smoke it, get it cuz its a rare stick. From what I was told, it sounds like 21,000 Maduro and 21,000 Natural or whatever the wrapper is was made.

how much did you get the sticks for?
I read about this in the cA's Cigar Companion.

Here are the specs from the above book:

La Gloria Cubana
Serie R No. 6 Maduro
5-7/8" x 60
Made in Dominican Republic
Filler Nicaragua
Binder Nicaragua
Wrapper USA/Conneticut Broadleaf

Review from cA's Cigar Companion:

A monstrous cigar that's very solid.
It smokes well and has cherry notes and hints of toast and sweet wood.
Medium to full bodied.

It sells for around $30 but I got in on a game day special so it was almost $18.

Wow, that sounds like a good deal.

Man, I've got to try one...but at $30...phew!

I guess I'll wait to see if I can get a similar deal as you, MrPeat.

Okay,

when I first read this post, I had the idea you were talking about the regular release Serie R.

I just bought one today...and I'm smoking it right now.

It's 2 different cigars!
The Limitada Maduro vs. the regular release...

I'm an idiot!

Anyway, this regular release has an interesting feature...it SPARKS!
I've never had a cigar that sparks!
The wrapper sparks when it's burning.

The taste...it's very nutty and lightly roasty.
The cigar is also very hard...not much sponginess to it...very little give.
It has a somewhat toothy maduro wrapper.
The ring size IS HUGE...60!
It also has a light charred flavor.
The finish and aftertaste is very light and short.
Light coffee notes...but more wood flavor.
Not much of a sweet flavor...compared to the Anejo or Chateau Fuente.

Overall, a nice, lighter maduro...compared to others.

These are great cigars. Tons of flavor, great construction. Nice review.

However, if someone is charging $30 bucks for these (either the 2004 or 2005) they are just bending their customers over the hard-chair. That is ridiculous. The 2004 humidor with 20 cigars was $335 MSRP. That comes out to $16.75 a stick assuming the humidor is worthless...which it is not. Talking to the General Rep, the cigars are meant to sell for around $8 a stick...therefore, the humidor is $175.

For 2005, the humidor has 30 cigars. The whole thing retails for $500 and some change. Same principle here. $8 times 30 comes to $320. The humidor is the rest of it.

Hey Peat,

I just saw that my local B&M had the 2004 humidor with the SerieR maddies. Big honking sticks! Lovely humi though...but once the big sticks are gone, any smaller sticks you put in there will be rolling around a bit.
