Well I thought I'd give a review a shot...
Edit: That was supposed to read 'Cubana' not Cuban.
I've had this one for a week now anticipating the chance to enjoy it. I had a #4 natural this summer and really liked it, but I purchased the maduros since I tend to like those.
The wife was out, I put the kids to bed, poured myself a Deschutes Obsidian stout, dressed warm and went out to the back deck with a good book.
This thing looked great, dark, firm, and wet... oh no that was my drool. ???
The pre-lite draw was a easy and the maduro was a flavorful, like a nice dark espresso. Once it started burning the smoke was plentiful and the flavor was full. I'd like to go into specifics, but I couldn't get past the maduro wrapper. It dominated this cigar from start to finish. Not that it was bad (I love maduros), but it left it one dimensional. The #4 natural had layers of different flavors that emerged throughout the smoke (in an angular, sharp way that maybe time would smooth out). I'm guessing those same flavors were present in this one, but masked by the overwhelming maduro. The smoke was never thin, but filled my palate and whacked me over the head saturating my taste buds. Unfortunately always with the tarry maduro flavor. In hind site the stout matched the flavor too closely and next time I'll try a lighter drink that will contrast the cigar a little more. My hope for this one (considering I have a few more) is that over time the maduro will mellow and the other flavors will emerge.
It burned realy well, except it almost went out the first time the ash fell off. A touch of the torch and all was well. Smoked it to the nub...
It did leave me with a nice buzz too. :0
