La Flor Dominicana - Mysterio (OOOHHH Mysterious!!)
Length - Dunno
Ring - Dunno
Shape - Old Skool Cuban Figurado
Wrapper - Connecticut Shade with a maduro boot!
I liked this smoke...not only for it's novelty appeal of the maduro wrapped foot and cap (Crazy bee-hive pigtail to boot!), but for it's shear audacity at trying to take the place of the AF BTW as humidor eye-candy! This is a beautifully made cigar. The wrapper is perfect and the cigar is firm.
I was kinda concerned about smoking this thing due to the fact that I thought it may be more hype and marketing (same thing?) than a great cigar...not to mention the $16 price tag. But I cut the fucker anyway!
(Side note: This Opus DC I just lit is amazing!)
Lit it with a match cause the foot is so skinny. At first I thought the thing was plugged because it didn't draw for a damn. But when the cigar really took to the cherry it opened up a bit and so began the great experience I was about to have.
The first 1/4 inch was weird due to the maduro strip on the foot...gave it a weird sweet/spice taste with the competition of wrappers going on...piqued my interest! After the maduro burned through it opened up to that amazing single ligero spice and smoothness that a lot of us have come to love about Litto Gomez' creations. This cigar is no exception and no gimmick to boot.
(Side note: This DC is so damn good! Makes me wish there was a way to buy stock in Opus X!)
At about the 2 inch point it settled into what was to be a great ride of wonderful flavor, subtle head-banging spice and sweet rewards. Because of the shape...as you progress through the cigar the flavors change somewhat nicely but aggressively. The beginning toward the middle you have got a lot of spice from the ligero but smoothness from the wrapper. Then at the middle there is this change to more smooth spicy lovelyness that is exceptional in it's blend. This is where I know I would like to buy more of these...not as show pieces but to smoke the hell out of!
As I got past the midway point...it started up with the spicyness again, but not as agressively as the start. It was more of a nice clean white pepper, somewhat sweet but would make you sneeze if you snorted it! The flavors on my tongue were of cedar, white pepper, strong taste of black tobacco and maple sugar. I like this and I start to puff more voraciously...but to my dismay I overheat the damn thing and it starts to burn crooked! I sit it down and think to myself..."Am I doing this right? Should I enjoy it as much as I do? What better thing could I be doing right now?" Then I come back to reality and start puffing again. :whistling:
The last 1/4 is very tasty...with the sweet wrapper coming through but the hint of spice from the ligero still sitting prominently in the background. It started to get an ackrid kind of "I'm done!" flavor at the last 2 inches so I put it down.
The End!

PS - The Opus X DC I smoked during this review was better than the Mysterio!
