I made another trip to Crime Lab last week, do I HAD to stop by the B&M there in Macon to pick up some tasty smokes. One of the ones I pickedup was this LFD Perfecto Maduro. Now I have to say I am not a big maduro fan to begin with, but this thing was a beaut. So here we go!

The first thing I noticed while examining it was the beautiful wrapper. This thing was like dark chocolate. I almost wanted to eat it. It felt like it was solid as a rock, and I thought I might have picked a plugged one, but after I snipped the head, I found the draw to be just right. Thank God!

I fired this little bugger up, and was met with a decent volume of smoke, though I thought by the draw I had, more smoke would come out, but it ended up fixing itself later on, so it was all good. I tasted strong black coffee, with a little sweetness that I couldn't quite place. The closest I could come up with was a kind of cinnamon like flavor. It was very faint so I couldn't quite nail it.

The pepper spice started building throughout, but it never got to the "knock your socks off" point. I kept fighting with the burn because it would never stay even. I only had to touch it up once, but there would be many more to come. Because of the touch ups, the ash got very flaky on the outside but was very solid in the middle.

During the second third I noticed a slight sourness that I really liked, though it only lasted a couple of minutes. Then it was back to the smae coffee flavors, and the slight spice that was tickling the back of my throat. I would describe the strength as right in the medium range, but started getting a bit harsh at this point. I still couldn't keep the burn under control, as I had to touch it up 3 different times.

During the last third it started to get real soft and very harsh, I ended up getting the "Nic-Ups" and had to put it down to be with Jesus.

All in all I would say this is a one trick pony. All I tasted was coffee throughout with no strength and/or spice changes. As I said I am not a real big fan of the maduro wrapper, I haven't found one yet that I enjoyed, but I am always willing to try ones I haven't tried before (that's why I bought this one), but my feelings have not changed.

Cheers!

Is that the El Jocko #1 or some other vitola?

I do believe it's an El Jocko. I didn't look at the box real good when I picked it out. (I never do...) I looked it up on Google, and it was the closest match.

This was a favorite of mine a while back. That cigar brings back lots of memories for me from a much more innocent time.
