I was gifted one of these monstorous smokes a while back. Since then it has just sat quietly in my humidor. Well, after doing a little bit of reading up on this particular smoke, I decided to give it a try. Pretty much every review I've read gave me expectations of a great experience. This was not to be the case.

Last night was our monthly Herf at work. I brought with me a nice selection of smokes, but pretty much knew all along that I would be smoking the big LFD. My frustration with this particular smoke started before I even got it lit. At least a little bit. The over all size and shape of this smoke makes it even difficult to cut the end with your average size cutter. I actually had to work my way around the edges to get it done. The overall construction and humidity level of the smoke felt really good, but for some reason the end seemed to be fairly dry and brittle when cutting.

After getting the end cut, I proceeded to toast the end nicely and began to draw and light it. Getting it lit wasn't too much of a process, it seemed to light up ok and I got the end burning nice and even. Pre light impression of this smoke by myself, and everyone around me was that it was basically going to smoke the entire place up. I mean a smoke of this dark color and size surely will put off some mean clouds of smoke. This just wasn't the case. Some of the better smokes I've had always had that effortless draw, and big clouds of nice white smoke. That is just something I look for and enjoy. I don't know if it was the overall size of this smoke or what, but it seemed like in order to get any kind of decent smoke, I had to really puff on it over and over. It really was a lot of effort to smoke this particular cigar. At first I felt as though maybe I didn't have it lit correctly, or maybe it just started slow etc. For whatever reason, it just wasn't very enjoyable to have to put in so much effort into a cigar. I really can't give much review of the flavor of this cigar, because I never really felt like it was even burning the way it should.

I stuck with it for abour 45 minutes hoping it would improve, etc. It never really did. After thinking about it for a while, I decided to just give up on it. With only about 1/2 of it burned, I went ahead and sat it down. I forgot to mention that up until this point, it was definitely holding a nice ash. But that was about the extent of the positives I found in this cigar.

In the future I would like to try another one of these. Something tells me I just got a dud.

My rating on this is a neutral.

damn, I just realized I put this in the wrong section.

I hate when I get a plugged smoke, sometimes if you roll it between your fingers firmly you can loosen it up but other wise you need a draw poker. Interesting too because La Flor has good construction from what I’ve seen.

I'm not a big fan of the Factory press, it's too damn big!

Agreed. Both the size and the blend of the Factory Press II is much improved. It is both smaller (in terms of ring gauge) and much tastier. I don't care for the original FPs much myself.

I love reviews like this one too! I happened to like the Factory Press that I smoked. Sounds like you got a dud for sure. Even though I liked mine, it is going to be a while before I smoke another one. The size, it just feels wrong! :(

Didn't care for the first edition and have yet to try the second. I'll get around to buying one at the local B&M eventually.

That's too bad Erick. I do enjoy the Factory Press myself. But there's no doubt duds are out there. I hope you'll give it another go.

My nickname for this cigar is "the plank".
I just find this cigar too big for me.

It is huge. I'm a little intimidated by the one I have sitting in my humidor.

I've had several now without a flaw. I'm sorry you got a bad one.

As have I. Had several laying dormant in the humi for about a year now too. Still problem free. Not a smoke that I'd necessarily go back to again and again, but was enjoyable.

Go ahead and give another try. I have smoked both the 1 & 2 and never had draw issues.
They are tasty and you might enjoy the 2 because of it's smaller size.

LOL ...... my sentiments exactly on those bigger cigars

I've had a few FP I so far and loved every one. Enought that I just bought more so I can age some. Still have yet to try the FP II, but they have them in Rosslyn so I plan to try it while I'm in DC.

I didn't have too much problem cutting the last two, but the first one I had, like you, I cut around the edges and it started unraveling about halfway through. The next I cut normal with my 62 ring double blade and just cut it at the point that fit (not the whole end) and it smoked perfectly. The last one I used a cat's eye on (it was a table-top so it had a huge aperature) and that also worked very well, though the draw was definitely lighter. The first two almost seemed to have too much smoke for me, but I sucked it up <grin - pun intended>

Looks like you had a dud, sorry.

Big ass chocolate bar looking thing. I've had a half dozen and it kicks my ass every time. I just gave my last one away at the Howard House Herf but if I get another I'll keep you in mind.

It's like smoking a giant snickers bar. Only without the nougat and peanuts, but plenty of taste!!!

edit - for spelling
