I was gifted one of these monstorous smokes a while back. Since then it has just sat quietly in my humidor. Well, after doing a little bit of reading up on this particular smoke, I decided to give it a try. Pretty much every review I've read gave me expectations of a great experience. This was not to be the case.
Last night was our monthly Herf at work. I brought with me a nice selection of smokes, but pretty much knew all along that I would be smoking the big LFD. My frustration with this particular smoke started before I even got it lit. At least a little bit. The over all size and shape of this smoke makes it even difficult to cut the end with your average size cutter. I actually had to work my way around the edges to get it done. The overall construction and humidity level of the smoke felt really good, but for some reason the end seemed to be fairly dry and brittle when cutting.
After getting the end cut, I proceeded to toast the end nicely and began to draw and light it. Getting it lit wasn't too much of a process, it seemed to light up ok and I got the end burning nice and even. Pre light impression of this smoke by myself, and everyone around me was that it was basically going to smoke the entire place up. I mean a smoke of this dark color and size surely will put off some mean clouds of smoke. This just wasn't the case. Some of the better smokes I've had always had that effortless draw, and big clouds of nice white smoke. That is just something I look for and enjoy. I don't know if it was the overall size of this smoke or what, but it seemed like in order to get any kind of decent smoke, I had to really puff on it over and over. It really was a lot of effort to smoke this particular cigar. At first I felt as though maybe I didn't have it lit correctly, or maybe it just started slow etc. For whatever reason, it just wasn't very enjoyable to have to put in so much effort into a cigar. I really can't give much review of the flavor of this cigar, because I never really felt like it was even burning the way it should.
I stuck with it for abour 45 minutes hoping it would improve, etc. It never really did. After thinking about it for a while, I decided to just give up on it. With only about 1/2 of it burned, I went ahead and sat it down. I forgot to mention that up until this point, it was definitely holding a nice ash. But that was about the extent of the positives I found in this cigar.
In the future I would like to try another one of these. Something tells me I just got a dud.
My rating on this is a neutral.
damn, I just realized I put this in the wrong section.
