At the recent LI herf Sean brought a bundle of the robusto in a natural wrapper. I thought the name sounded familiar. His was from a shop in the Bronx. He insisted, and I found it true from the samples I tried, that the construction was excellent. The burn never needed any correction.
Driving in NJ I passed a cigar shop I had frequented a couple years ago and lo and behold it was the same name. Turns out the Bronx store has a few locations. They all use the same tobacco but different rollers. A roller was working on his wares at the time of my visit. Three bucks a smoke, bundle for fifty, four for ten. I bought a couple of the toro's in the natural and a couple of the maduro panetela size. This shop has a small walkin humi of other cigars but you could tell that their own fresh rolled was their mainstay. The balance of the shop was dedicated to these.
Not sure, didn't ask, what origin the leaf. If form holds from their website, however, the maduro wrapper is from Brazil. That is of no consequence. The fact is it was one of the most distinctly chocolate flavors I have ever smoked. It was about 6.5 x36. I didn't really measure.
Lots of rich smoke thoughout and a nice, not too spicy finish. These will be purchased by the bundle by me sometime soon.
Have to send one to Larry in the upcoming pass.
