I actually smoked this a couple of nights ago, but haven't had a chance to write it up.

Cigar of choice is a La Aurora Preferidos Cameroon Robusto (5x50). I've had these for at least 5 months in my humidor, depending on which purchase this actual stick came from. Some friends and I went in on a couple boxes of these a few months in a row because of a good deal on them.

Construction was nearly perfect. There were two noticeable veins running the length of the cigar, but they didn't affect the smoke in any way. Foot was good, cap was good, cut was clean. I'm ready to light this thing up. Pre-light draw was a little light for my liking, but typical for these cigars in my experience. Taste was a woody chocolate... I think the pre-light draw always tastes like chocolate to me...

Toasted the foot with my torch and lit this up. No problems getting it lit. Smoke was gray and plentiful, even with the kind of light draw.

The initial taste was woody... almost even a "green" woody to me. Not much else for taste, either. No harsh aftertaste or anything bitter. I saw one site say the flavor was a "sweet wood", maybe that's what I describe as "green"?

This is a good smoke, though. Not complex, but it burns well and has a very consistent flavor the whole time.

Since it was liked so much in my last review, here's the picture of the burn.

Ash held on for a couple of inches, only ashed it twice, total. This seems about normal for a good robusto. Ash color was dark gray and black; not as flaky as other cigars I've seen. I don't know what the color of the ash tells us, but there you go. :)

Final score for me is a 7.5 out of 10. I like having these around and smoking them myself, but they're also good for others as they're not that powerful of a smoke but still have some good flavor. If you're keeping track, I rated the Cusano 18 Maduro to high and changed that to a 6. CA rated these La Auroras a 93, for reference. :)

On a side note, the whole time I was out smoking, a storm was rolling through. I went out to watch the lightning and ended up getting hailed on. At least I was under a little cover and the hail was small.

A very nice review.

I've smoked through an entire box of these. I haven't heard anything about these being a limited edition though. ???

Hmm... I was copying the info off the page I bought it from, but maybe they are or I am confused. ???

PREFERIDOS CAMEROON ROBUSTO (CAM 5 X 50 BX 25) pad

NEW! Rated a 93 in Cigar Aficionado and featured in the April 2006 issue. With an amazing, '93' rating, the Preferidos Limited Edition 2006 Cameroon received the highest mark in the April '06 Cigar Aficionado. Here is what they had to say:

"This oily, toothy cigar gives off a rich aroma. It loads the palate with sweet wood & cream. The finish resonates with cocoa & spice. Balanced & Elegant."
The production is limited to just 25,000 cigars, due to the scarcity of these fine leaves, leaving just 1,000 boxes for the retail market. Robusto size only.

I took out the LE '06 mention until I can be sure I'm not talking out my ass. :)

Very nice review. I'm a big fan of the "ash progression" picture. I got one of these as a freebie an a La Aurora event earlier this month, handrolled in the store. I think it needs a great deal of downtime, though, so I won't be smoking it anytime soon :(

Nice review, I just bought a box of these a couple months ago and have gone through several. Very nice smoke.

Thanks for the review and pictures.

I really like these cigars, but they are a little expensive.
There are three waiting in my humidor for warmer weather...

John, I don't think you're talking out of your ass. . .although that would be quite a thing to see.

As you have noted, these cigars have been out for a little while now and are readily avalible at FamousSmokeShop.com at the same price you listed for Atlantic cigar. I've never seen them out of stock. I always find CA's information to be a little dubious to say the least, but who knows for certian about such things. The Cuesta-Rey Standford's 90th and the Padilla 1932 are both small production cigars, but I don't know if that qualifies them as a limited edition along the lines of Cuban cigars. I think they're just small production, if the numbers that CA list are true. This can be a big IF. :whistling:

Fired one of these up again last night - wow, what a difference this time. These things are at least a year old now and have turned into quite the little flavor bomb. The stick had some cracks around the foot, but it smoked well.

Started off with a deep woody, almost graphite taste to it with an aftertaste/smell that reminded me of citrus or oranges. Delicious. Middle moved into a toasty flavor and got creamier. Finished with the same deep woody taste as the beginning and the strength stepped up a bit near the end. A mild smoke, but full of flavor. I still have one or two of these left - can't wait for next year to smoke another! :)

Seems like a pelican case would provide a great seal and get the job done. but really I just wanted to bust your balls and ask...what the hell does graphite taste like???

This is one of my favorite cigars, I just took a long walk around the park and enjoyed one of these! I have purchased 4 boxes of these over the last year and half, the one I smoked today had around 14 months on it. These are wonderful cigars with great flavors of coffee and chocolate!! They do have some strength to them, but not over powering!

This is one of my favorite cigars as well...but if you like it, the new Ecuadoran Sumatra Robusto is fantastic as well. These are just out and in a few stores...but around here they have sold out fast.

Frank sounds good...guess I will have to put both of them on my list to try. :D
