A heck of a long time ago, I pulled this cigar out of a pass that Clown started, the one where he made custom bands for each participant.
I had never smoke nor ever heard of La Aurora but the funny red tube this perfecto was in looked interesting so I grabbed it. Since I'm becoming the consummate Cigar Snob of late, I never seem to smoke those domestics I have hanging around in the humi :0
So tonight I says, "Let's smoke my one monthly non-Havana and see why I'll never go back."
First I checked out the CI website where my notes indicate this cigar can be purchased. Here's what they say:
 I sez, Looks like the writers from Thompson now work for CI
I clip the cigar and my pre-light draw all of a sudden sparks my interest, A NICE FIRM, HAVANA-LIKE DRAW. I imediately scroll down the CI page to get the prices on these only to find that there are FOUR different Preferidos #2's and some of 'em are darn expensive :0 When I realize I have a $13.00+ cigar in my hand, I'm like "This is WAY overpriced for some no-big-deal mild cigar."
So, I light it up and WOW was I wrong. This cigar burned PERFECTLY, tasted absolutely wonderful, had a pleasant smoke that is not overpowering, and supposedly it's "mild" but to me, it has a little more kick than your average mild cigar. I'm generally not a fan of the perfecto vitolas BUT I'll make an exception in this case The ash was a fine, light grey, not flaky and it reminded me of the ash I see on Opus X ceegars. My taste buds are too burned out to distinguish the "notes of oaked Bourbon, earth and minerals" but those with a more sensitive sense of taste would probably experience this. This was one DELICIOUS cigar
Have I missed something, have other people raved about La Aurora Preferidos maduros and I wasn't paying attention or what? I don't ever remember these cigars ever being discussed here.
This was one FANTASTIC cigar, granted a little pricey but if I'm paying $10.00 - $20.00 for Opus X then these are worth it as well.
I highly recommend this cigar

La Aurora is the oldest cigar made in the Dominican Republic grown in the same fields of the Cibao Valley for over 3 generations.
In fact, La Auroras are like a national treasure down there - it’s the best selling brand within the country. Those who have discovered this brand know it as a smooth and mild "steady workhorse" of a cigar - always dependable and delicious. La Aurora has been using Dominican-grown leaves from the same fields in the Cibao Valley region for over three generations - a testament to its consistency. The dark Cameroon wrappers from West Africa are the icing on the cake of this mellow-tasting mild cigar.
The Preferidos line was the first cigar manufactured in the Dominican Republic back in 1903. Its beautiful, unique shape was designed to offer a perfect smoke of varying intensities. Preferidos, the cigar that established the cigar-making tradition of the Dominican Republic, is now rolled in limited quantities. This time-tested, super-premium cigar offers rich Cameroon wrappers and Dominican fillers.
The La Aurora Preferido Gold Corojo was named one of Cigar Aficionado's top 50 cigars for 2004. Along with an '89' rating, this is what they had to say:
"A rich, dark perfecto with a superb burn. It has a brawny, leathery flavor with notes of oaked Bourbon, earth and minerals, medium to full in body."
