How can I keep beetles off my cigars since my country's temp is so high usually? I live in the DR and right now the temP inside my humidor is around 25-26c or 77-79F. I'm freaking out since I have 4 cigars with holes and a bunch more without them and like new.

It's driving me nuts...and no I can't have a coolidor sadly

As long as you have no beetles/eggs in the cigar or humi, shouldn't you be okay? I would guess if you have doubts about the sticks when you first get them you can try to freeze them down and kill anything inside. That's just my two cents but I am sure a more informed member can tell you more.

Hey thanks...how can I be sure there's no egg inside a cigar? Cuz I'm sure there's none inside my humidor and right now there are around 25 cigars in their cello inside my humidor which look really ok...should I freeze them? Wouldn't that damage them?

Take a closer look around on this forum. These questions have been answered.

But it is still to be determined if you take the cello off or not when lighting!

You'll know them when you see them!

Search vinotemp and I came across a thread not to long ago where a BOTL went through his step by step freezing process and said his sticks where still great when smoked. Just search and you will find!

@emoshun close, but everyone knows cigar beetles are identified by the smoking cigar in thier mouths and the xikar cutter in thier pocket!

If I were you and lived in such a climate, I wouldn't hesitate to buy a thermo-electric wine cooler. (Vinotemp is one, but hard to find these days, but you can find them on amazon.. Edgestar... and others). Set the temp for 66 degrees or so and stick your cigars in there with some humidification (heartfelt beads for example). I wouldn't mess with temps like that any longer, cigars cost too damn much to lose them to the beetles. This can all be done for less than $150. That's about the price of a box of certain smokes!

Good luck.
