I'm very new to the site and fairly new to cigars. I have a Herf a dor and was wondering the best way to keep my cigars good while they are in there. I know its more of a short term type box but I will be useing them more long term, as I don't want to take a good wooden one to Afghanistan. Someone told me to put a couple drops of Cigar Juice in the small round part on the inside of the lid. Ive been told to put a pillow in there too. Any suggestions?

Boveda packs or the little pillows will work fine. I keep a small tube of Heartfelt beads in mine (useful if you can get access to distilled water - see your surgeon or maintenance dept.). You'll be fine with cigar juice in the little bit of foam inside the humidor, too. Those things seal tight, so you don't have to worry about much.

If you want a larger, cheaper container, get a Lock n Lock tupperware container. I used several of those in Afghanistan and still do at home for my primary humidor.

There are many ways to skin that cat... I use several of the Pelican Cases I own as Humidors when I travel (currently in Iraq) and have used a few different things. If you know you can get distilled water at your location I'd recommend the beads as the Heartfelts that I have here have been wet and forget...but you can only use distilled water on them so if you don't know Cigar juice is the way to go... I would recommend getting a digital hygrometer to throw in there so you can keep an eye on your babies....

Have a safe deployment and I hope this helps!

Cheers,

R

Not to thread jack here but for you guys that have served in Afghanistan and Iraq, thank you so much for your service to this country. You are appreciated.

I use a humistick in my 5x Otter case. Larger ring guages cause problems but it serves me well for the three or so days the cigars sit in there pre-herf.
