OK, here is the story behind this query. About 7 years ago when I lived in San Antonio, we used to frequent a store in Austin, TX called Cigar Palace. It was owned by a guy named Charlie G. (can't pronounce much less spell his last name) who just happens to be the brother of Nazareth, the owner of the Grand Havana Room in LA. Anyway, this guy had these maduro cigars that we tried. They were JPB Crowns.

Here is the story that we got on the cigars. They were last made around 1978 and the remainder of the stock sold to a distributor. The distributor stored them and in 1986, Charlie bought the entire bunch. They have been kept in good condition (however old they really are) and smoked very well. We bought ours in 1998. I only have one left.

I am asking the question to check the validity of the story that we were given. I have googled and have not been able to find anything. If anyone can help or steer me in a direction that would help, I would be most appreciative. These were great cigars and I would like to clarify the story behind them before I smoke my last one.

I do know that they have not been included in any of the Perelman's Encyclopedias of cigars since they have been published.

Thanks in advance.

Well I have never heard of JPB Crowns, but I do live in Austin. I have never been to the Cigar Palace, but if you find out if they still have them in stock I would be happy to go pick some up for you. I don’t know if they are still in business but their phone number is in the yellow pages (512) 472-2277

Wow. I thought they were out of business, but if they are still listed....who knows. I don't believe they have any left. Part of the story that I left out was that we told a collector friend of ours about the cigars. We went back the next weekend to buy more. He had beaten us there by about an hour and bought the last 6 full boxes. We bought the remaining singles that he had out. The friend of ours would not even sell us any of the cigars.

About cigar palace, he used to be on 8th street. He also had a second shop near the arboretum called Gigantes. Don't know if either have survived. Thanks for the phone number...I'll give them a call and find out if they have any left.

Thanks for the offer of picking them up...I'll PM you if they have them.
