Hey all,

I saw an earlier thread about the Joyas De Panama.

These are very good. Great. I see them popping up in more places every week and then I saw the sample offering below. I saw some other forums too have reviews. All reviews were great but i was still skeptical. Ok so anyways I made the buy and put a torch to my new Churchill. Lots aof flavorful smoke. Hints of coffee, almost hazlenut but not overwhelming. Nice even burn and a wonderful draw. The cigar is a 10 year aged long filler for those who havent heard yet and trust me its worth more then what they charge. Many cigars I have tried were name brand, hyped up or just over priced. This is the 2005 diamond in the rough award winner. We will hear alot from these guys. Joyas De Panama is here to stay.

I was all ready to hate this cigar because of the neglect PanamaMike gave me on this board. Then I found out that Joyas de Panama is a sponsor at LT. Went over there and posted in the JdP thread about the poor treatment. Got flamed by the junior high kids over there. But this is what the owner of the company posted:

I have to defend HudsonvalleyCP. He is correct. He was promised a sample cigar and for whatever reason the cigar sample was never mailed or never arrived. It was my distributor that had several cigar posting offering free samples. I'm not sure how many cigars were mailed or people interested. Maybe, he ran out. I don't know since I was not involved. I recently found out about this by reading Hudsonvalley's posts in one of the cigar forums that my distributor offered the free samples. I'm sorry it happend and that he didn't follow up. Emailing and sending Hudsonvalley a few samples has been on my things to do list. I always try to keep in touch with the people that are interested in trying a JDP cigar. I even provide them my phone number. Like a have to a few members on this site.

HudsonvalleyCp, I apologize that it happend. Please email me your address and I'll send you a few samples.

Well, that does it. Anyone who can own up to his agents mistake after getting called out deserves another chance. I politely refused his free samples and bought the 5 stick sampler on his website. I didn't care if the smokes were good or bad. I was touched by his response.

When the smokes came I could see how some of the samples folks here got were damaged. They came in just a couple of days, priority box with no bubble wrap, just a baggie with a plastic shopping bag around it. All the guys I have purchased from here could give them lessons on safe packaging. Mine were in perfect shape, though.

Well, this morning I lit up the coronita and it just blew me away! The draw was tight but that didn't detract in the least. I have heard that some cubans are more tightly rolled and you just need to adjust to it. Not my experience but that is what I have heard. There was so much flavor in the smoke I had a hard time staying on the road! And this tiny thing lasted fully an hour. Nutty and toasty with some cedar towards the end. Not one harsh tone in it. Best cigar I have had in a couple weeks. Gave the RyJ limited edicion a run for its money.

I gave one to Wozol around the mid-day herf table at JR's. We'll see if he concurs and I will see if the other smokes in this sampler are as good.

This is a manufacterer that should be supported in my opinion with this kind of quality smoke and business attitude. Especially if they are going to produce this kind of smoke on a regular basis. They make some different figured smokes, too, that some of you like. Bats and pipes and whatnot. Not my sort of thing.

Anyway, superior smoke.

Too bad their site's down temporarily. Would have liked to take a look. OH well, maybe tomorrow.

So it's around 3am. Took a break from writing a paper to smoke the one I got in the mail, was a PC-sized stick.

colour = med. to dark brown
wrapper = nothing too pretty, rough in some areas, no hard spots, little soft near the head.

This cigar lit up right away and had no maj. burn problems
Draw was great, not too tight, not too loose

Have to say I was impressed by this one, gave me a lot more than I expected. Agree w/ HudsonValley that it was powerful. A great med. to full flavour, reminded me a little of the Padron's main line. Didn't taste a great range of flavours, but a nice mix all the same.

will need to check the price for these, am def. considering buying a bunch of these to put into my reg. mix as an affordable smoke [as long as they're in the $2-4 range]
would recc. you give it a try.

Got one in the mail last week and should get a chance to ash it at a herf Friday night.
