I was out on an Opus hunt today with the wife and stopped in to see if my shop had any, which they didn't. They guy told me they had just got in three boxes of Jose Seijas. I hadn't really heard of em and he gave me two, to take home and try. A robusto which I smoked while the wife and I went shopping (I sit in the car and smoke for awhile, she takes the credit card and heads into the mall, calling if she needs me to come look at something).
These smokes run from 12-15 bucks, so a little on the pricey side and I am biased on NC that are that pricey, thinking what ISOM I could have for that money.
The Jose Seijas Signature Series 2000 features an Ecuadorian wrapper, Dominican binder, and Dominican, Peruvian, and Nicaraguan filler tobacco, all of which has been aged for three years. The label is a Davidoff knock off in appearance. White with gold dots all around.
The wrapper is silky smooth and firm, it is a well made cigar.
The draw is medium to loose.
Now I fired this thing up and knew it would be a full flavored cigar and it turned out to be just that. It was a consistent cigar, it really only changed after the first inch and kept the same profile throughout.
The main thing about this cigar is that it has that raw straight tobacco taste up front no frills attached. No real pepper or spice of any kind you find in other cigars.
The main elements of this cigar would be, espresso, leather, molasses, and boysenberry a very thick dark tasting cigar which was rather pleasant. After the half way point I picked up some vanilla here and there but came and went within 8 or so minutes.
I have never been really impressed with a cigar right out of the shop and this one was just the same. Not a truly, "I need a box of these" experience. My only thought was it needed to be smoked a little drier and I think that would make all the difference. That and I had nothing to drink as I prefer water with my cigars, seems to help cleanse the mouth.
All in all about 8-8.5 and over priced, I do see potential for these and as always try to smoke 2-3 of everything in order to get a fair take on em. If you just have to try one by all means go for it.
