Smoked my first pipe last night thanks Alan. was suprised at how much I enjoyed it. I like how you can determin how long the smoke is unlike a cigar. Now i got to pick up some other tobac to try Boswells stuff sounds good expecialy Bear blend . And I have a few B&M around that carry pipe stuff. Cupple of questions.
Do I need a pipe tool?
When trying a blend from online how many oz. shuld you order?
Whats the shortest time one has to sit a pipe?

Congratulations. In my experience, and I've never had a sour pipe, you can smoke a pipe hard, once every 7 days. If you're only smoking one or two bowls a day, 3 days is usually enough.
Yes you need a pipe tool. Tamping is very important. A ten penny nail or larger will do in a pinch.
According to some, you need to smoke at least a couple of ounces of a blend to begin to appreciate it. Personally, I prefer tinned tobacco, which usually comes in 50gm, 100gm and half pound containers.

I can usually tell if I really dislike a tobacco after 2 bowls. I can never tell if I really like a tobacco until I've smoked a dozen or so. If your ordering to sample, a couple of ounces should be plenty to tell if you'd like more. That's about a small tin's worth.

Get a pipe tool. A Czech tool is very inexpensive and quite useful. I used to not worry about tamping so much, but I've come to the realization that a little bit of attention in that area is very useful.
