Hey guys,

So I'm thinking of expanding my collection and selling my antitiem and purchasing a larger cabinet. Realizing that I wasn't going to find any larger cabinets for around $300, I was willing to spend even greater then that but to my amazement shipping is $100+ for such humidors! In other words, I'd be paying around $450 minimum for a cabinet...

So are there any websites which don't charge that much for shipping or am I stuck with paying >$450??

Have you looked at the price of gas lately?

Freight is costing more and more these days to ship. The postal rates will be going up as well as all the express shippers out there.

Cabinet Humidors go through Freight like Anthony mentioned. Ups, ect. will not ship large objects like this, so freight with a tractor trailer is the best option to get it to you.

If $100.00 is all that you end up paying, then consider yourself lucky. It cost me $200.00 or so to get mine from Tampa to just outside DC almost three years ago.

And no, there are no companies that don't charge this. :)

x2 to all that has been said and good luck with the shipping company

I recently had a corner bar shipped to me that was $200 for the shipping and the company that sent it was horrible. They didn't give me a shipping confirmation, the driver was 6 hours late of his delivery window, and he was also a giant idiot. I'd almost look for one in your area for a while before having it shipped.

You could always offer to drive to the manufacturer, and pick it up! $100.00 will look pretty reasonable, I am sure.

Depends on the size of the cabinet but I've seen it range anywhere from $150-$400 depending the size and distance.

$100 doesn't sound unreasonable.

I hope this helps

Goodness... I guess I'm behind on the times. I recall my original cabinet costing half that much to ship.

Thanks for the heads up guys!

As said already, all cabinet humidors ship via freight. Even $100 sounds low, as Mark said, it is more like $200 - $400 depending on where you live.

Just as an example, I had someone order a Montegue End Table unit, which is similar to the size you currently have and it was $169 for freight shipping. That is not my number, that is directly from the freight company based on the zip code.

I work in the Freight/Logistics business so maybe I can shed some light on the subject.

1. Fuel is going up. Everyone is charging a Fuel Surcharge.

2. A empty cabinet is going to be charged on "dimensional" weight. Not "actual" weight. Think of it like shipping anvils and pillows. You can fill a truck with 200 lbs of pillows but you can fill the same truck with 40,000 lbs of anvils. If you're charging per pound, you're screwed on the feathers. Hence, the dimensional weight factor.

To figure a average dimensional weight...

L x W x H / 250 = dim weight

$100? You're lucky, I paid close to $300 in freight for my humidor. It arrived on an 18 wheeler. Gas isn't cheap.

As others have mentioned in here, I would try and pick it up from the seller--if at all possible. That's what I am doing with my tower humi.
